Can I take ceftriaxone when preparing for pregnancy?

Although cephalosporin is a drug that works very quickly and has significant effects, it is best for women who are preparing for pregnancy not to take it, as it will cause considerable harm to their bodies. This is because cephalosporin is an antibiotic, which means it is a drug with side effects. Therefore, if women need to take medication before pregnancy, they must get a doctor's consent.

Do not mix with other medicines

In principle, antibiotics and any other drugs cannot be mixed together and administered at will, even if they are both antibiotics. For example, if a patient is receiving intravenous drips of two antibiotics, cephalosporin and gentamicin, the two drugs cannot be put into the same bottle for drip at the same time. Because various antibacterial drugs have different physical and chemical characteristics, when they are added together, to the naked eye, the color does not change, and there may not be any precipitation. But in fact, they may have interacted with each other, reducing their respective antibacterial effects, and even producing new compounds that are harmful to the human body. Therefore, when using antibiotics, they must be administered separately and two drugs must never be placed in the same container at the same time.

Principle 4

Do not use before or after drinking alcohol. Shock and syncope are very likely to occur, and the elderly may even be in danger of death.

The antibacterial efficacy of the second-generation cephalosporins against Gram-positive bacteria is similar to or lower than that of the first-generation, but is more effective against Gram-negative bacteria, as shown in:

(1) Some Gram-negative bacteria (such as Escherichia coli and Proteus mirabilis) with strong anti-enzyme properties are easily resistant to first-generation cephalosporins. Second-generation cephalosporins are often effective against these resistant strains.

(2) Broad antibacterial spectrum: The antibacterial spectrum of the second-generation cephalosporins is broader than that of the first-generation, and they have antibacterial effects on Neisseria, some indole-positive Proteus, some Citrobacter, and some Enterobacter.

The antibacterial efficacy of third-generation cephalosporins against Gram-positive bacteria is generally lower than that of first-generation (similar for some individual varieties), and their effect against Gram-negative bacteria is superior to that of second-generation cephalosporins.

(1) Expanded antibacterial spectrum The antibacterial spectrum of the third-generation cephalosporins is wider than that of the second-generation ones. They are effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens, Acinetobacter, Peptococcus, and some Bacteroides fragilis (the antibacterial efficacy of different types of drugs varies). It is ineffective against fecal streptococci, Clostridium difficile, etc.

(3) Strong enzyme resistance: The third-generation cephalosporins are often effective against some Gram-negative strains that are resistant to the first- or second-generation cephalosporins.
