(1) Expanded antibacterial spectrum The antibacterial spectrum of the third-generation cephalosporins is wider than that of the second-generation ones. They are effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens, Acinetobacter, Peptococcus, and some Bacteroides fragilis (the antibacterial efficacy of different types of drugs varies). It is ineffective against fecal streptococci, Clostridium difficile, etc. (3) Strong enzyme resistance: The third-generation cephalosporins are often effective against some Gram-negative strains that are resistant to the first- or second-generation cephalosporins. |
