Pain below 20 days after delivery

If it appears 20 days after delivery and it is very itchy and painful down there, it may be vulvar inflammation or local wound inflammation. It is best to go to the hospital as soon as possible to have a doctor check you out. If it is a local wound inflammation, anti-inflammatory and dressing changes are required. If it is vaginitis, first of all, a routine test of leucorrhea is needed to confirm which type of vaginitis it is? Vaginal suppositories are used for treatment.

Wound care after normal delivery

Vaginal births often result in vaginal lacerations or wounds from episiotomies. The wound heals quickly and the pain usually disappears in 1-2 weeks. However, since the wound is located at the intersection of the urethral opening, vaginal opening and anus, it is very susceptible to infection, so the postpartum wound should be carefully cared for to avoid vulvar infection.

1. Clean the wound. Wash the perineum with warm water every day and wipe it dry from front to back with a clean towel. You can add iodine to the water for disinfection.

2. Correct sitting posture. When sitting up, the new mother's body center of gravity should be shifted to the right to avoid compression of the wound and causing epidermal dislocation.

3. Avoid holding urine. If you feel the urge to urinate, you should urinate immediately to avoid worsening the infection by holding your urine.

4. Do not squat. After the stitches are removed, avoid squatting immediately. When going to the bathroom, tighten your perineum and buttocks before squatting to prevent the wound from splitting.

5. Fungal treatment. Use a female irrigator, 1% povidone-iodine solution, diluted 10 times with pure water, for irrigating. After flushing, place Daktarin suppository or Canesten. For external itching, mix clotrimazole ointment with neomycin fluocinolone cream and apply it.

6. Get out of bed and walk around more often. New mothers should get out of bed and walk around frequently to promote gastrointestinal motility and smooth bowel movements.

7. Change sanitary pads frequently. Avoid letting the wound come into contact with a wet sanitary pad for a long time.

8. Keep in touch with your doctor. If you feel the wound is getting more and more painful after the operation, you should contact your doctor immediately for timely examination.
