When does edema during pregnancy begin?

It is very normal for women to have edema during pregnancy, because during pregnancy, the endocrine system of women will be out of balance, and women will feel uncomfortable all over, especially in the late pregnancy, because the pregnant woman's belly is relatively large, and the large belly will cause body compression, and the lower body will naturally swell. So when does edema during pregnancy begin?

As the expectant mother's early pregnancy ends, morning sickness has also eased. Many expectant mothers will experience edema in the second or third trimester. This is also a pregnancy reaction and expectant mothers do not need to worry too much. So when does edema during pregnancy begin?

The main cause of edema is that the enlargement of the uterus increases the pressure inside the pelvis, compressing the veins in the lower limbs and causing poor blood flow. When a pregnant woman is seven months pregnant, the baby has basically taken shape and her belly has basically reached its largest size, so from then on, the mother's chance of developing edema will increase sharply. Expectant mothers may find that the shoes they used to be able to wear are no longer wearable, and that it takes a while for the flesh on their feet or hands to recover after being pressed.

This edema cannot be recovered immediately after delivery. It will take a week to slowly begin to recover, and the edema may even worsen within a few days after delivery. This is because excess tissue fluid, blood, etc. after childbirth need to pass through the kidneys before they can be excreted from the body, which puts a great burden on the kidneys. When the kidneys cannot handle so many problems at once, a lot of fluid accumulates in the body, aggravating edema. Next, let’s take a closer look at the symptoms of edema during pregnancy.

1. Feet: Generally speaking, edema during pregnancy is most likely to occur on the feet. You will find that the originally protruding ankles have almost become a flat surface, and edema during pregnancy does not distinguish between left and right. Normally, it will appear on both sides at the same time.

2. Legs: If the edema tends to get worse and the calves start to swell, and a vortex appears when pressed with the hand, this may be a precursor to eclampsia. Pay attention to observation and go to the hospital for examination in time to determine the true situation. Generally speaking, if there is edema in the calves, it will occur in both legs at the same time. However, if this is not the case and the calves are accompanied by pain symptoms, you should seek medical attention in time to rule out the possibility of other diseases, such as blood clots.

3. Hands, face and back: Edema may also occur on the hands, face and lower back. If there are signs of edema not only on the fingers, but also on the back of the hands and wrists, it is because the edema further blocks the nerve tube in the wrist, and the pregnant woman suffers from carpal tunnel syndrome.
