How long does it take for the fever to subside naturally before you can breastfeed?

Having a fever is not a good thing. If you have a fever, there must be a reason. For example, if a breastfeeding mother has a fever, it may be caused by a cold or a breast disease. In fact, for fever during breastfeeding, our usual treatment plan should focus on breastfeeding. Generally, after the fever subsides and the inflammation disappears, mothers can breastfeed their babies with confidence.

What should I do if I have a fever during breastfeeding?

When the body temperature reaches 38-40℃, it is considered a fever. To reduce fever quickly, mothers should keep in mind the following methods that can help reduce fever quickly.

1. Drink more water and get more rest

A certain degree of fever (body temperature below 38.5℃) has a protective effect on the body, so if the temperature is below 38.5 degrees, it is best not to rush to take medicine to reduce the fever. At this time, you can choose to rest more and drink more boiled water. Especially sleep, must be sufficient;

Mothers can also treat fever caused by colds by drinking ginger soup. This drink makes the body sweat, thus curing the cold. Secondly, you can consider taking a warm bath to lower your body temperature.

If a breastfeeding mother has a cold and a fever over 38 degrees, she should not breastfeed her baby. For the sake of her own and her baby's health, it is recommended that the new mother go to the hospital to see a doctor and be sure to indicate that she is breastfeeding and will continue to breastfeed. The doctor will generally provide safe response measures for this special situation.

2. Eat more liquid food

When you have a fever, you may lose your appetite, so you may have no appetite for any food. In this case, mothers can choose liquid or semi-liquid foods that are sufficient in water content. Such as: soup noodles, white porridge, fresh juice, milk and so on. When you need to be careful, you should eat less and avoid eating too much at one time.

Do not eat eggs when you have a high fever; at the same time, drink more warm water, and the daily water intake should be no less than 500 ml. Breastfeeding can be suspended for 1 to 2 days during a high fever. During the period of cessation of feeding, breast milk should be expressed frequently to ensure that breastfeeding can be continued in the future. The mother herself should drink plenty of water, fresh juice, eat light and easily digestible food, and get a good rest. In this way, she will often get better quickly.

Common dietary therapies include:

Glutinous rice and green onion porridge:

After washing 100 grams of glutinous rice, add appropriate amount of water to cook porridge. When it is almost cooked, add a few scallions and cook until cooked. Eat on an empty stomach.

Pear, Date and Egg Soup :

Wash and cut a pear into pieces, add appropriate amounts of red dates, ginger and rock sugar, then add water and boil, and finally beat an egg. Take once in the morning and evening, and rest after taking.

Cabbage and radish soup:

250 grams of cabbage heart, 60 grams of white radish, add appropriate amount of water, fry it, add about 15 grams of brown sugar, drink the soup and eat the vegetables while it is hot.

Orange peel ginger brown sugar tea:

Cut 10 grams each of orange peel and ginger into thin strips, add water and boil until half a bowl remains. Add appropriate amount of brown sugar when taking it and drink it while hot. Cover yourself with a blanket and sleep after taking it, which will help reduce fever and relieve headaches.

3. Stop breastfeeding

If the baby is still breastfeeding, it is recommended that women temporarily stop breastfeeding two days before the onset of fever. During the period of suspension, pay attention to expressing the milk to avoid affecting subsequent breastfeeding.
