Bleeding that occurs on and off throughout pregnancy

Bleeding during pregnancy itself is very dangerous for both pregnant women and fetuses. If pregnant women have intermittent bleeding, they must find out the cause. There are many reasons for bleeding, such as the position of the placenta, cervical polyps or cervical erosion, which can cause bleeding during pregnancy. If it is a small amount of bleeding, it generally does not have much impact on the fetus. You must pay more attention to rest, keep the vulva clean, and develop good living habits.

What are the common causes of bleeding?

Normal bleeding

As you enter pregnancy, your uterus will continue to grow as the fetus develops. The cervix will continue to expand, so it is easy for a break to appear between the uterus and the cervix. A small amount of bleeding may occur. This is a normal phenomenon during pregnancy and there is no need to worry too much. Once the uterus becomes larger, the bleeding symptoms will disappear in about ten days.

Implantation bleeding

Some people experience a small amount of bleeding about a week after ovulation. This is because the fertilized egg causes a small amount of bleeding in the endometrium during its transmission to the left ear. This condition usually lasts about three days and there are no other obvious symptoms. Implantation bleeding does not mean that the transfer has not implanted.

Subchorionic hemorrhage

As the fertilized egg continues to develop, the chorion gradually appears. The main function of the chorion is to wrap the fetus and amniotic fluid. Fits tightly to the endometrium. But in certain specific cases, separation may occur, which can lead to bleeding.

Cervical cancer

Is bleeding during pregnancy normal?

For expectant mothers, vaginal bleeding is a warning and an abnormal symptom. Because under normal circumstances, expectant mothers will not experience vaginal bleeding unless there are certain reasons. The reasons for bleeding during pregnancy include:

(1) Premature birth. Vaginal bleeding in pregnant women in the late stages of pregnancy may be a precursor to premature birth. Usually, premature birth is also accompanied by abdominal distension and pain, rupture of membranes, strong contractions of the uterus causing a feeling of falling, and a noticeable hardening of the abdomen.

(2) Ectopic pregnancy. For early pregnant women, vaginal bleeding may be caused by ectopic pregnancy. Vaginal bleeding usually occurs around 2 months of pregnancy, accompanied by varying degrees of nausea and abdominal pain. Once tubal pregnancy ruptures, vaginal bleeding will occur heavily, and in severe cases, the expectant mother may go into shock.

(3) Slight vaginal bleeding or brown discharge during the first three months of pregnancy may be a symptom of miscarriage. At this time, the expectant mother will experience abdominal or back pain.

(4) In the early stages of pregnancy, if there is intermittent small amounts of vaginal bleeding, or repeated heavy bleeding, it means there is a possibility of molar pregnancy or miscarriage.

(5) Complete placenta previa, partial placenta previa and marginal placenta previa may all cause vaginal bleeding, which occurs between the 20th and 28th weeks of pregnancy.

(6) Vaginal or cervical inflammation, cervical erosion, cervical polyps, subuterine myoma, prolapse of the cervix or cervical cancer may also cause vaginal bleeding in expectant mothers.
