Why is the urine yellow in pregnant women?

Many pregnant women will have yellow urine due to pregnancy. This is because during the pregnancy period, especially in the early stages of pregnancy, the levels of progesterone and estrogen in the body will rise rapidly, which may lead to endocrine disorders in the body. At this time, pregnant women will have frequent urination and yellow urine, and in severe cases, they may not be able to urinate completely. So why is the urine of pregnant women yellow?

Causes of yellow urine during early pregnancy

First, it's generally normal and if you decide to have more than one child, you'll see it over and over again. You can talk to your doctor, other expectant mothers, or visit online forums where expectant mothers chat with their community, and you will find that yellow urine is a common occurrence during pregnancy. Sometimes it’s a dull yellow, and sometimes it’s so bright it’s almost a neon yellow. The causes vary, but it is rare for urine to remain a completely bright or light yellow color throughout pregnancy.

Just like when you're not pregnant, not drinking enough water can make your pee an opaque yellow color. So make sure you drink enough water throughout the day, and make a conscious effort to drink an extra glass or two of water each day and see if you see an improvement. The urine may be more concentrated than usual, resulting in a darker yellow color. Its color is created by a pigment called urochrome, which is diluted by water.

Getting enough water during pregnancy is very important, so if your urine is dark yellow and you have no other symptoms, dehydration could be the culprit. Try using a larger cup instead of a smaller one.

What you eat can also cause yellow urine during pregnancy. Asparagus is one of many foods that can change the color of your urine, along with beets and carrots. Try to eat a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals and don't worry about the effect it may have on the color of your urine. When your urine is affected by what you eat, it is usually bright yellow.

If you're still concerned about your diet, ask your doctor or midwife for dietary advice. This may ease your worries about what to eat and what not to eat, and may also return your urine to its normal color.

Nutrition Tips for Early Pregnancy

1. Protein. 80 grams of protein should be consumed per day. This month, try to ensure the pregnant mother's protein intake. It can be consumed in many ways, including plant protein and animal protein. You can consider replacing animal protein with plant protein, and eat more soy and mushrooms.

2. Fat. The daily intake is 60 grams, and the nutrients mainly come from oils, milk and nuts. Generally speaking, vegetable oil is better than animal fat, with a digestibility of over 95% and rich in linoleic acid.

3. Folic acid. The required intake is 0.6 mg/day, mainly from leafy vegetables such as greens and cabbage, citrus fruits, bananas, beef, and animal liver. It is recommended not to heat foods high in folic acid for a long time to avoid destroying the folic acid in the food.
