Causes and consequences of endometrial thickening

Causes and consequences of endometrial thickening

The uterine wall refers to a layer of tissue structure that makes up the uterine cavity. It is affected by the body's estrogen and estrogens, as well as the influence of uterine and ovarian estrogen, and will undergo regular changes. Physiological thickening of the uterine wall often occurs with abnormal uterine bleeding. So, what are the causes and adverse effects of endometrial thickening?

Thickening of the endometrium is called endometrial hyperplasia. It is a non-physiological, non-erosive abnormal proliferation of the uterine wall. The main reason for its occurrence is long-term exposure to estrogen stimulation without estrogen antagonism. In addition, women with Lynch syndrome (hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer) have an increased risk of endometrial thickening.

Thickening of the endometrium will affect women's pregnancy. Normally during the menstrual cycle, the ovaries can produce eggs and secrete estrogen, and the uterine wall will also physiologically thicken. Disorders in the body's estrogen and estrogen metabolism will cause physiological thickening, which will affect the combination of sperm and egg, and is not conducive to growth and development in the uterus, and may even cause threatened abortion and other conditions.

Non-menstrual uterine bleeding is also caused by the physiological thickening of the uterine wall. When the situation is severe, symptoms of excessive blood loss and anemia will appear, which will affect women's physical and mental health. The patient needs surgical treatment through the method of curettage and ablation, and also needs pathological examination to prevent the occurrence of malignant endometrial thickening. If malignancy is diagnosed, surgical removal of the uterus is required. In order to prevent this symptom, you should exercise regularly, improve your physical fitness, and stay away from the harm caused by endometrial thickening.

Causes of endometrial thickening

The thickness of the uterine wall will undergo periodic changes with the menstrual period, but some endometrial thickening is a physiological disease that will affect our physical and mental health and is worthy of our attention.

The blood circulation of the uterine wall is improved, and a gradual thickening phenomenon occurs, namely proliferative endometrium and endometrial thickening. The cause of endometrial thickening is mostly related to excessive estrogen metabolism in the uterus and ovaries and insufficient progesterone levels. If the uterus and ovaries are out of control, a large amount of estrogen will stimulate the uterine wall, which can easily cause abnormal endometrial thickening and cause endometrial thickening.

During the ovarian cycle, when the uterus in the ovary develops and matures, it secretes estrogen and produces functions, which increases the blood circulation of the uterine wall and causes the endometrium to thicken, providing good conditions for the integration of sperm and egg and the growth and development of the embryo. After ovulation, under the action of the corpus luteum secreting estrogen and female hormones, the thickened uterine wall undergoes a metabolic state, namely, the metabolic endometrium.

Excess estrogen and insufficient progesterone may be due to taking emergency contraceptive without luteinizing hormone or using androgen replacement methods without luteinizing hormone. The probability of this happening is higher in patients with chronic anovulation, such as those with polycystic ovary syndrome, women with late menopause or obese women.
