Theca fibroma

Theca fibroma

Many people are not clear about what a follicle is, but those who have some knowledge of physiology know that there is a single cell in our ovarian follicle, which is commonly known as the egg. But it is also prone to some diseases, such as theca fibroma. It is a disease caused by lesions of the ovarian membrane. When the condition is serious, it can lead to female infertility. So when this happens, what measures should be taken to treat it and avoid more serious problems?

What is theca fibroma?

Theca fibroma is a type of theca lesion. If it is not treated in time, it can easily become the main cause of infertility. This tumor can secrete more estrogen, so the feminization symptoms are more significant than those of granulosa cell tumors. It is often accompanied by endometrial hyperplasia and even endometrial cancer. Malignant thecoma can directly infiltrate adjacent tissues and may metastasize to distant sites, but the prognosis is still better than that of general ovarian cancer. The incidence rate is 1/2 of that of granulosa cells, which is basically benign, but 2~5% is malignant. It usually occurs after menopause and is rare before the age of 40.

What does theca fibroma look like?

The tumor is unilateral, of varying sizes, generally medium in size, dry and hard, with a smooth surface, solid cross-section, and typically with yellow lipid areas.

3. Inspection

Theca cell tumor is a tumor with a low incidence that occurs in the sex cord-stromal cells of the ovary, and the preoperative diagnosis rate is very low. most

The nature of the tumor can only be determined during surgical resection. The most common preoperative examinations for this type of tumor are CT and MRI.

1. CT examination. CT examination is a very commonly used method for diagnosing tumors. Through CT, the volume, location, and shape of the tumor can be determined more accurately. The tumor is mostly close to the myometrium. If the tumor is large, we can also see small patches of low-density areas scattered around, but calcification rarely occurs in the tumor. After enhanced CT scan, the patient will mainly show slowly progressive mild enhancement.

2. MRI examination. MRI is a very important method for tumor diagnosis, especially for determining the nature and staging of the tumor. T1WI and T2WI show general low signal, while T2WI shows high signal with nodules and floccules. All tumors did not show the "whirlpool sign" and "pseudocapsule sign". Those with metastasis to the pelvic cavity and inguinal area would have swollen lymph nodes.
