Dark menstrual period, less volume, not like blood

Dark menstrual period, less volume, not like blood

Normal menstruation is dark red and not clotted. If some female friends find that their menstrual blood is black and in the form of blood clots, it is very likely caused by irregular menstruation or other reasons, which is an unhealthy condition. So, what is going on?

The menstrual period is dark and less like blood

Small amount of menstrual blood is mostly caused by low estrogen levels and endocrine imbalance. There are many reasons for the small amount of menstrual flow and dark color. In addition to the possibility of insufficient corpus luteum, thyroid cysts, abnormal milk hormone secretion, abortion or uterine wall adhesion are also among the reasons. In addition, it also includes long-term malnutrition, changes in the natural environment, excessive stress, poor medical care during menstruation, colds and so on. Chinese medicine believes that scanty and dark menstruation is caused by qi stagnation and blood stasis, which obstructs the uterine vessels and causes poor blood circulation.

Therefore, the color of blood on the first day of menstruation and the last few days when the amount of blood is small is dark brown. It is believed that this may be caused by menstruation staying in the uterine cavity for too long, and is usually accompanied by menstrual pain. If the menstrual period is light and dark once or twice, it can be restored by adjusting the work and rest schedule. If the menstrual period is light and dark for a long time, you need to go to the hospital for examination and medication. The menstrual period can be restored through traditional Chinese medicine conditioning.

For example, you can take some blood-activating, blood-stasis-removing and menstrual-regulating medicines such as Wuji Baifeng Pills and Yimucao Paste, eat more fruits and vegetables, pay attention to keeping your abdomen warm, and often eat some Chinese medicine or food that replenishes qi and blood, such as donkey-hide gelatin cake and wolfberry. If there is no effect after the above treatment, women with symptoms of scanty and dark menstruation for a long time are recommended to go to the hospital for a hormone test and a B-ultrasound examination to see if it is caused by the disease.

Symptoms of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome often occurs during adolescence, and its key clinical symptoms include menstrual disorders, excess androgen and obesity.

1. Menstrual disorders are the most common clinical symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome. The main manifestations are oligomenorrhea (cycle time 35 days to 6 months) or amenorrhea, and finally there is too little menstrual flow or oligomenorrhea. It may also manifest as irregular uterine bleeding, lack of regularity in menstrual cycle or menstrual volume.

2. Infertility. Women in their growing period suffer from infertility due to ovulation disorders.

3. Excessive hair growth and acne are the most common manifestations of hyperandrogenism. There are different levels of hair, mainly genital hair, dense pubic hair with a masculine tendency, extending around the anus, groin or midline of the abdomen, and there may also be fine whiskers on the upper lip or excessive hair around the nipples. Oily skin and acne are common, which is related to the accumulation of male hormones in the body stimulating excessive secretion of sebaceous glands.

4. Obesity: more than 50% of patients are obese (body mass index ≥ 25kg/m2), and often have abdominal obesity (hip/waist circumference ≥ 0.80). Obesity is associated with insulin resistance, excess androgen levels, increased free testosterone and leptin resistance.
