Which is more harmful, taking birth control pills or having an abortion?

When a man and a woman do not take proper contraceptive measures during sexual intercourse, the safest way to terminate the pregnancy is oral contraceptives. Once pregnancy occurs, the woman needs to have an abortion. Some people will think about it, and even some people who are afraid of getting pregnant will wonder, is taking contraceptives good for the body, or having an abortion? So, let’s take a look at the pros and cons of these two methods!

1. The harm of contraceptive pills

Contraceptive pills are a common method of contraception and can be divided into long-acting contraceptive pills, short-acting contraceptive pills and emergency contraceptive pills. Generally speaking, birth control pills do not cause much harm to female friends, but there are some side effects, such as dizziness, nausea, poor appetite, fatigue, vomiting, increased vaginal discharge, breast pain, menstrual disorders, weight gain, pigmentation, etc. These side effects will not all manifest themselves. Women with different physiques will experience different side effects after taking birth control pills. It is important to note the usage of emergency contraceptive pills. Emergency contraceptive pills should not be used more than three times a year, otherwise it will cause great harm to women and may even lead to infertility.

2. The harm of abortion

Abortion is the abbreviation of artificial abortion, which causes more harm to female friends.

The first harm is that abortion may cause menstrual disorders, habitual miscarriage, premature birth, etc. in female friends, which has a great impact on female fertility and may even cause infertility.

The second harm is that abortion is likely to cause endocrine disorders in women, thereby accelerating aging.

The third hazard is that abortion surgery has a relatively large impact on the endometrium. After multiple abortions, the endometrium will become very thin, affecting the implantation of the fertilized egg and making it difficult for women to become pregnant.

3. Reactions to taking birth control pills

1. Early pregnancy reaction

In the early stages of taking birth control pills, a very small number of people will experience mild early pregnancy reactions, such as nausea, dizziness, loss of appetite, fatigue, vomiting and other symptoms. These symptoms usually occur within the first 1-2 weeks of taking the medication. For those with more severe reactions, vitamin B6 can be taken, 20 mg each time, 3 times a day. If there is still no relief, you can consider changing to another brand of birth control pills, or choose a drug with less estrogen content.

2. Increased leucorrhea

Increased vaginal discharge is mostly caused by long-term oral contraceptives. Because this drug has a high estrogen content, excessive estrogen affects the secretory cells of the cervical endometrium, causing them to secrete more vigorously and causing an increase in leucorrhea.

3. Menstrual disorders

Decreased menstrual flow or amenorrhea usually occurs after taking short-acting contraceptives. This is because the drugs inhibit ovulation, the ovaries secrete less estrogen, the drugs contain less estrogen, the endometrium cannot grow normally, the endometrium is thin, so the menstrual flow decreases or even stops. Breakthrough bleeding, such as bleeding during medication, often occurs after a missed dose. Increased menstrual flow and prolonged menstrual period often occur in people taking long-acting oral contraceptives.

4. Weight Gain

It may be that estrogen causes water and sodium retention, and progesterone affects anabolism (increased progesterone promotes protein assimilation), which causes some women to gain weight. Generally no treatment is required. Oral diuretics or a low-salt diet can be given, and the medication can be stopped if necessary.
