Can I eat persimmons when I have my period?

For women, menstruation is an inevitable situation. It is the periodic growth and development of their ovaries and the shedding of ovaries. When women have their menstruation, they need to pay special attention to their diet and sleep. For example, women cannot eat spicy food, smoke, or drink alcohol, otherwise it may cause menstrual irregularities. So can women eat persimmons during their periods?

It is best to eat less persimmons during menstruation, because persimmons are cold and will stimulate uterine contraction. Menstruation is a special physiological period for women. At this time, women’s immunity is very low, and they should pay special attention to keeping warm. Given that persimmons are cold in nature, it is best not to eat persimmons during menstruation, especially for women who already have dysmenorrhea.

Of course, eating persimmons varies from person to person. For women who do not have obvious symptoms of weakness, they can eat persimmons in moderation during menstruation, just savoring small amounts. However, it should be noted that persimmons should not be eaten on an empty stomach, and must not be eaten at the same time as crabs, spinach, sweet potatoes, etc., so as to avoid causing abdominal pain, diarrhea, dysmenorrhea and other discomforts.

In fact, persimmon cakes contain very high vitamins and sugar content, so they are very helpful for health care and can bring benefits to our body. However, persimmons can cool blood and stop bleeding, so it is not suitable for women during menstruation to eat persimmon cakes.

Foods that should not be eaten during menstruation

Experts point out that in fact, it is not just ice. Some foods with cool properties, such as ice cream, winter melon, eggplant, loofah, cucumber, winter melon, crab, snail, kelp, bamboo shoots, orange, pear, grapefruit, watermelon, etc., and sour foods, such as sour plums, unripe sour fruits, or some spicy foods, such as fried foods, chili, pepper, mustard, etc., should also be avoided during menstruation to avoid blood flow problems.

In addition to not consuming ice cream during menstruation, women should pay special attention to keeping warm during menstruation, avoid cold, wading, rain, exposure to the sun, and cold showers. They should also refrain from sexual intercourse, bathing in a tub, and swimming, and keep the vulva, underwear, and sanitary napkins clean.

Traditional Chinese medicine is against women eating ice during menstruation, while Western medicine believes that there are no taboos. Menstrual blood is the shedding of the endometrium, and is discharged through the contraction of the uterus. When eating ice, the temperature of the stomach and intestines drops, which affects the contraction of the uterus and makes it more difficult to discharge menstrual blood, thus forming blood clots. In order to discharge the blood clots, the uterus has to increase the force of its contraction. This is why eating ice may cause menstrual pain.

Western medicine does not exclude any food. Even ice can be eaten during confinement. Although eating ice may cause uterine contraction and cause menstrual pain, these blood clots can be discharged through the body's internal mechanism, so women do not need to worry too much. However, if you experience excessive menstrual pain due to eating ice, you should go to the obstetrics and gynecology department to check if there are other possible diseases.
