Is breast cancer HER2 positive or negative?

Is it better to be HER2 negative or positive? For HER2 breast cancer, there is a difference between positive and negative. Generally speaking, negative is better than positive. HER2-positive breast cancer is curable and not very serious, while HER2-positive breast cancer is in the terminal stage. Therefore, if there is any problem, it is necessary to check early, whether it is early prevention or early recovery. Now HER2-positive breast cancer can be controlled, which means it can increase life expectancy.

Knowing whether HER2 is negative or positive is better, and the role of HER2 in promoting the growth and development of tumor cells is a solid foundation for more reasonable breast cancer and gastric cancer treatment in the future. Key contributions have been made to scientific research at the basic and clinical medical levels.

HER2-negative or HER2-positive, some clinical studies have attempted to clarify whether the use of trastuzumab is a reasonable treatment for breast cancer tumors that are not classified as HER2-positive. The researchers accidentally discovered that HER2 can also be used in some HER2-negative tumors. The NCI-funded trial, led by Louis Fehrenbacher, is studying the effects of trastuzumab on "HER2-negative/low" tumors to see if treatment can reduce the risk of recurrence and improve overall survival.

Other studies are exploring the benefits of trastuzumab and similar HER2-targeted drugs for some ovarian and gastric cancers that have high-quality HER2. In 2014, animal studies showed that a drug combination of trastuzumab and T-DM1 reduced or eliminated HER2-positive ovarian cancer tumors in mice. This holds promise for future human science research and continues to build on the basic discoveries made by earlier NCI efforts.

Researchers continue to search for treatments, including synergistic therapies that can effectively destroy tumor cells without causing severe side effects. One potential treatment approach uses an antigen that identifies a protein called HER2 on the surface of tumor cells and a protein on T cells of the human immune system that fight infection. This allows the patient's own immune system to attack the cancer by directing T cells directly to tumor cells.

Is it better to test HER2 negative or positive? Since the 1980s, NCI has continuously invested in the research of HER-family proteins and their mechanisms of action. These investments have already resulted in key scientific discoveries in the understanding of cancer. Today, prognosis, survival rates and outcomes for patients with metastatic breast cancer and other types of HER2-positive cancers have greatly improved. Additional NCI-supported research is investigating how these discoveries can be applied to a broader range of cancer treatments while reducing harmful side effects and improving survival and quality of life.
