Is it necessary to fast for gynecological examination?

After a woman has a gynecological disease, she needs to undergo a gynecological examination in time. Before the examination, she should understand the precautions of the gynecological examination. Some items require fasting, such as B-ultrasound examination. If you do not know how to fast in advance, it will often affect the time of the examination. In addition, some tests require you to hold your urine in advance, such as vaginal B-ultrasound examinations.

Whether fasting is required depends on the reason why the patient is having the ultrasound. Some gynecological ultrasounds require fasting, such as when detecting deep organs that are easily disturbed by gas in the digestive tract, fasting examination or more rigorous intestinal preparation is required. Although some B-ultrasounds do not require fasting, you do need to hold your urine, so it is best for female friends not to empty their stomach when doing gynecological B-ultrasounds.

1. Conventional ultrasound or transabdominal ultrasound:

This method is simple and easy. The bladder needs to be full for the examination, which is commonly known as holding urine. Because only when the bladder is full to a certain extent can the uterus be squeezed from the deep pelvic cavity to the lower abdomen, so that the uterus and ovaries can be observed with abdominal B-ultrasound. Therefore, you need to drink plenty of water before doing this test. You need to drink about 1000 ml of water half an hour to one hour before the examination and hold your urine as much as possible, otherwise it will affect the ultrasound results.

2. Vaginal B-ultrasound examination:

A suitable probe is set on a standard transabdominal ultrasound machine. The probe must be covered with a thin film. The examiner or the patient can insert the probe into the vagina to examine the situation in the pelvic cavity. This method does not require holding urine, and because it is close to the uterus and ovaries, the image is clear and has high resolution, so the examination results are more accurate.

Warm reminder: It is best for women to fast and hold their urine before undergoing a gynecological B-ultrasound examination. Because the specific requirements are unknown, it is recommended that women be well prepared to avoid a wasted trip.
