What to do with cervical polyps after menopause

Cervical polyps often occur in women over 40 years old. Because the early symptoms are not obvious, it is easy to delay treatment. For cervical polyps that appear after menopause, you must go to the hospital for examination in time. In fact, women should not worry too much. Generally speaking, this is an inflammatory hyperplasia, not caused by a tumor. Of course, we must also prevent cervical polyps from becoming cancerous and treat them in time.

Cervical polyps often occur in multiparous women over 40 years old. Because the early symptoms are not obvious, they are often ignored. When some patients go to the hospital for a gynecological examination and learn that they have cervical polyps, they become extremely nervous and think they have a tumor. In fact, cervical polyps are just an inflammatory hyperplasia that occurs on the cervix, not a tumor.

Cervical polyps are a type of chronic cervicitis. It is more common in women of childbearing age and menopausal women. The cause is mostly due to inflammation of the cervical mucosa, which is caused by the accumulation of inflammatory hyperplasia of the cervical mucosal epithelial cells. It is different from cervical erosion. It is difficult to see abnormal changes from the surface of the cervix. Moreover, cervical polyps are generally very small. They grow inside the cervix at the beginning. They may not be found when patients go to the hospital for treatment. Only when the polyps continue to grow and protrude from the external os of the cervix can they be seen during a gynecological examination.

Cervical polyps are generally painless. Some patients may experience increased vaginal discharge or bleeding during sexual intercourse. When cervical polyps are infected, irregular vaginal bleeding may occur. Bleeding during bowel movements may also occur when the polyps are larger. These symptoms are very similar to the early symptoms of cervical cancer, and some cervical polyps have indeed become malignant.

There was once an elderly postmenopausal woman who went to the hospital for abnormal leucorrhea. During the gynecological examination, cervical polyps were found and she underwent polypectomy immediately. The pathological results confirmed that the cervical polyps had become malignant, so she was admitted to the hospital for a radical hysterectomy. Therefore, once the patient has the above symptoms, he must go to the hospital for a systematic examination to avoid delaying the disease.

Cervical polyps are a common gynecological disease and the treatment method is not complicated. Generally, it can be removed with forceps or by loop electrosurgical excision using a high-frequency radiofrequency knife. After the operation, the polyp must be pathologically examined. A characteristic of cervical polyps is that they are prone to recurrence, and many patients will find cervical polyps repeatedly. Therefore, anyone who has suffered from cervical polyps should go to the hospital for regular gynecological examinations to ensure timely detection and treatment.
