What causes cervical polyps?

Cervical polyps are common chronic gynecological inflammations! When the polyps are relatively small, there are usually no conscious symptoms and they can usually be discovered during a gynecological examination. If the polyps are relatively large, they often lead to an increase in leucorrhea and bloody leucorrhea, especially during sexual intercourse, and bleeding symptoms are likely to occur. There are many reasons for cervical polyps, such as endocrine disorders, pathogen infection, etc.

1. Endocrine disorders.

When women have endocrine disorders, it is related to excessively high estrogen levels. Estrogen promotes the development of the vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries themselves, and at the same time, the endometrium proliferates and produces menstruation.

2. Infection by pathogens.

This situation is mostly caused by childbirth, miscarriage, postpartum infection, surgical operation or mechanical stimulation, sexual education that damages the cervix and causes infection due to the invasion of pathogens.

3. Inflammatory effects.

Due to the long-term stimulation of chronic inflammation, the cervical mucosa proliferates excessively. In addition, the uterus has a tendency to expel foreign bodies, causing the proliferating mucosa to gradually protrude from the base to the external os of the cervix to form polyps.

Cervical polyps are related to cervical erosion. Long-term chronic inflammation of the cervix stimulates the cervical mucosa and causes hyperplasia. The uterus has a natural ability to expel foreign matter, causing the hyperplastic cervical mucosa to gradually protrude from the base to the external os of the cervix to form polyps. The polyps are red, tongue-shaped, soft and brittle, and easily bleed when touched. The polyp also has a root, called the pedicle. The pedicle is generally slender and mostly attached to the external os of the cervix. Cervical polyps mostly grow individually and are mostly the size of soybeans. Some are as small as rice grains, and some are as large as about 1 cm in diameter. Sometimes there may be several polyps.

Cervical polyps are easily overlooked. Because more than 1/3 of patients lack obvious symptoms and are only discovered during doctor's examination, even if there are symptoms, most of them are mild, mainly a small amount of spotting, bright red bleeding, or a small amount of bleeding after sexual intercourse, which are sometimes mistaken for "menstruation". In a few people, the amount of bleeding may be similar to menstruation. Some patients may have yellow leucorrhea, most of which have an odor or blood in the leucorrhea. It can also manifest as vaginal bleeding after menopause. Unmarried patients often present with prolapse of a swelling at the vaginal opening.
