Why do we need to do a blood test to check hcg levels during pregnancy?

Pregnancy is a decision that affects a woman's life, and once pregnant, she needs to prepare for the life of the future new member. Many women like to use scientific medical methods to confirm whether they are pregnant. Among them, blood tests for hCG values during pregnancy are the preferred medical measure for women. So, why do we need blood tests for hCG values during pregnancy?

Although many types of early pregnancy test strips indicate that women can do a pregnancy self-test one day after missing their normal menstrual period, in fact not all pregnant women release HCG hormones at the same rate and time. Therefore, we would recommend only using the more accurate blood HCG test. HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is the "pregnancy test" hormone that obstetricians and gynecologists are familiar with and most commonly used.

1. After a woman becomes pregnant, an increase in β-HCG can be detected in her blood from the 9th to 11th day after fertilization. It increases rapidly in the first 8 weeks of pregnancy to maintain the pregnancy. After about 8 weeks of pregnancy, HCG gradually decreases until it reaches a relative stability around 20 weeks.

2. When symptoms of pregnancy appear, you must go to the hospital for blood HCG tests, B-ultrasound tests, urine tests and other corresponding tests to confirm whether you are really pregnant. If you are really pregnant, determine whether it is an intrauterine pregnancy or an ectopic pregnancy, and then take appropriate measures. Never make a decision on your own and determine that you are pregnant based on some symptoms.

3. The blood HCG early pregnancy test can detect pregnancy earlier. Generally speaking, urine HCG tests such as early pregnancy test strips can usually only be performed one week after the menstrual period has ended, while blood HCG early pregnancy tests can often be performed one or two days after the menstrual period has ended. This can advance the time of confirming pregnancy, so that appropriate countermeasures can be taken earlier for the pregnancy.

4. Blood HCG test refers to human chorionic gonadotropin. The early pregnancy test strip mainly detects the HCG hormone in the urine. Generally, the syncytial trophoblast secretes an increase in the HCG hormone in the urine 6 days after conception. Therefore, if you have regular menstruation, it is recommended to test at least 7 days after the menstruation has obviously stopped to confirm pregnancy.
