Can I have IVF if I have ovarian cysts?

Ovarian cysts do have an impact on the ovaries, but the specific impact depends on the size of the cyst. The sperm and egg must combine to successfully synthesize a fertilized egg. If the activity of the egg is affected by an ovarian cyst, it will affect the development of the fertilized egg. Therefore, it is not recommended to do IVF when there is an ovarian cyst.

Ovarian cysts can generally be treated with IVF, but this requires a doctor's examination to be confirmed. At the same time, IVF experts remind that patients with ovarian cysts must undergo IVF as early as possible, because the older they are, the worse the quality of their eggs and the fewer the number of eggs. Ovarian tumors are common tumors of the female reproductive system, most commonly seen in women aged 20 to 50 years. Ovarian cysts have various properties and forms, namely: unilateral or bilateral, cystic or solid, benign or malignant, among which cystic ones are more common and have a certain proportion of malignant ones.

Generally, the choice is to have surgery first and then IVF. If an ovarian cyst is discovered in the first three months of pregnancy, it may cause miscarriage if the uterus is disturbed during surgery. If an ovarian cyst is discovered after 28 weeks of pregnancy, it may easily cause premature birth during surgery. If an ovarian cyst is discovered in the late pregnancy, it may hinder delivery and cause urinary retention or obstructive dystocia. Patients with ovarian cysts are not suitable for pregnancy. Otherwise there will be serious consequences. It is recommended to undergo IVF after surgery.

In vitro fertilization technology is mainly suitable for infertility where the fallopian tubes cannot be reopened (hydration and salpingography are still ineffective), such as fallopian tube occlusion, hydrops, adhesions, etc.; infertility where the cause has not yet been found but the woman is eager to get pregnant: including partial immune infertility, the presence of antisperm antibodies in the woman's body and abnormal cervical factors, etc.

Test tube baby, also known as in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer, refers to the collection of male semen and female eggs, which are fertilized in experiments. The developed embryos are then placed back into the female's uterine cavity. If they can be implanted in the uterus, they will continue to grow until delivery. This type of technology is mainly suitable for adhesion and obstruction of the female's uterus and fallopian tubes; endometriosis, abnormal follicular development and ovulation, and oligospermia and asthenospermia in men.

Ovarian cysts have a great impact on women's health, and patients usually have no special symptoms. The disease progresses slowly, and as the cyst slowly grows larger, symptoms such as menstrual disorders, abdominal distension and abdominal pain often occur. When these symptoms are more severe, women are more likely to develop ovarian cysts, and the chances and risks of developing ovarian cancer if the lesions become malignant are greater.

If an ovarian cyst is found, it is necessary to determine whether it is a physiological or pathological cyst. It is recommended to go to the hospital for an ultrasound. Currently, advanced diagnostic technologies such as color ultrasound, X-ray examination, and laparoscopy can diagnose ovarian cysts at an early stage. Although ovarian cysts are prone to malignant transformation, early examination, early detection, and early treatment are necessary.
