Among all contraceptive methods, the IUD is very effective and safe, but this does not rule out the possibility that it will bring some side effects to women. Many women experience vaginal bleeding, back pain, and excessive menstruation after using the IUD, which must be dealt with in a timely manner. 1. Vaginal bleeding after IUD insertion Most women will experience a small amount of bleeding within three to four days after IUD insertion. This is because the friction with the endometrium during IUD insertion stimulates the uterus to contract and cause bleeding. Some women may also experience bleeding due to abrasions on the cervical canal or endometrium during IUD insertion. Generally speaking, the amount of bleeding is not much and the duration is not long. Bleeding will stop within a week after IUD insertion. 2. Heavy menstrual flow after IUD insertion. In the early stage of IUD insertion, especially in the first three months, some women will have different increases in menstrual flow, or prolonged menstrual periods, and some will have irregular spotting. This is mainly because when the endometrium is shed, the IUD and the endometrium rub against each other, causing damage to the endometrium. Generally, the condition improves after three months. 3. Uterine perforation: This phenomenon is generally believed to be related to the size of the uterus or improper insertion of the IUD. In addition, if a woman engages in strenuous exercise after the IUD is inserted, the sharp shape of the IUD in the body or the physical inertia may also cause damage to the uterus. In more serious cases, the IUD may cause uterine perforation and enter the abdominal cavity, causing the IUD to be dislocated. 4. Increased cervical secretions. If the IUD has a tail thread, the long-term friction and stimulation of the cervical membrane by the tail thread may cause increased cervical secretions, that is, increased vaginal discharge; an IUD without a tail thread may also irritate the endometrium. If the amount of vaginal discharge increases significantly shortly after the IUD is inserted and it becomes yellow and purulent, and is accompanied by fever, lower abdominal pain and other discomforts, then an infection may have occurred and you need to seek medical attention immediately. |
