What is the cause of urethral pain when urinating? Women, beware of urethritis

If you experience pain when urinating, you should be alert to urethritis. Urethritis is a very common urinary system disease that can cause symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency and pain when urinating. Especially for female friends, timely treatment should be sought to avoid chronic urethritis.

1. Urethritis is a common disease , which can be clinically divided into acute and chronic types. It is more common in women, and the most common pathogens are Escherichia coli, Streptococcus and Staphylococcus. Urethritis is often caused by obstruction at the urethral opening or in the urethra, such as urethral stenosis or stones and tumors in the urethra, or by inflammation of nearby organs spreading to the urethra, such as seminal vesiculitis, vaginitis and cervicitis. Urethritis can sometimes be caused by mechanical or chemical stimulation, such as instrumental examination and indwelling catheter.

2. The symptoms of acute urethritis are redness and swelling of the external urethral opening , with serous or purulent secretions. The onset is acute, and there is usually no fever. Symptoms include pain after urination, urgency, frequency, and turbid urine. Urinating occurs every few minutes, accompanied by a burning sensation and pain in the urethra, and some urine may be ejected into the lower abdomen or perineum. Hematuria is sometimes seen in the turbid urine. When complicated by upper urinary tract infection (pyelonephritis), there are shivering, fever, back pain and dirty urine, sometimes accompanied by gastrointestinal symptoms and systemic symptoms.

3. Chronic urethritis lesions are mainly in the posterior urethra, bladder neck and bladder trigone, and sometimes spread to the extensive urethra . The urethral mucosa is rough and dark red granular in appearance. Due to scar fusion, the external urethral opening is smaller than normal. Microscopically, only lymphocytes, plasma cells and a few white blood cells are seen, and the tissue is filled with fibroblasts.
