Five major symptoms of schizophrenia, let’s take a look

Schizophrenia is a common mental illness in life. Patients often show symptoms such as confused thinking and uncontrolled behavior. This disease has a great impact on people's lives. So what are the specific characteristics of schizophrenia?

1. Hallucinations and delusions

In psychiatric disorders, delusion refers specifically to morbid beliefs that are difficult to correct and are inconsistent with reality, the individual's situation, and accepted beliefs in the culture. Hallucination refers to the perceptual experience that occurs without real sensory stimulation. It is an illusory perception. Hallucination is a subjective experience, and the subject's feelings are similar to perception. It is a relatively serious perceptual disorder.

2. Distracted thinking

One of the most obvious arguments for schizophrenia is that schizophrenics ramble. The introduction is inconsistent with the conclusion, especially in young patients. Schizophrenia patients often have scattered associations when speaking, and their thoughts will shift from one thought to another, with the result that the content of their speech deviates increasingly from the topic. In severe cases, the sentences become unrelated. However, this does not mean that people with schizophrenia cannot give a direct answer to a question. Like normal people, they can make very common first-order associations to given stimuli without difficulty.

3. Confusing expressions

The confusing speech of schizophrenia patients is often seen as the product of disordered thinking. Some researchers believe that the strange phenomena in schizophrenia-type speech may not be caused by obvious disorders of thought process, but simply because they are unable to retrieve the commonly recognized language symbols. That is, what a schizophrenic has to say may be reasonable enough, they just can't find the words to express it.

4. Mood disorders

The mood disorders of schizophrenia have little in common with the mood disorders of psychosis. There are two main patterns of mood disorders in patients with schizophrenia. One is emotional dullness. This emotional withdrawal is often accompanied by anhedonia. Anhedonia is the loss of pleasurable emotions that often accompanies schizophrenia. The second is that the dominant pattern is inappropriate emotion. That is, producing emotional words that are inappropriate to the situation.

5. Social withdrawal

An early sign of schizophrenia is a lack of attention and interest in ongoing events in the outside world. People with schizophrenia become absorbed in their own thoughts and gradually reduce their contact with the environment. In short, they don't interact with people. This may be partly due to their social impairment.
