How long does it take to recover after miscarriage?

Termination of pregnancy is divided into three types according to the number of weeks of termination: termination of pregnancy within 12 weeks is called miscarriage; termination of pregnancy between 13 weeks and 28 weeks is called induced labor, also called abortion; ≥28 weeks is generally called delivery of the pregnant woman. The fetus and embryo within 28 weeks are discharged from the pregnant woman's uterine cavity. It takes some time for each organ of the pregnant woman, except the mammary gland, to recover or return to normal. If the confinement period is more than 28 weeks, we include 6 weeks. For induced abortion within 13 weeks to 28 weeks, because the pregnancy weeks are not as long as normal delivery, the recovery may be slightly faster than normal delivery. Generally, the postpartum leave we give for induced abortion is about 4 weeks.

Different organs require different times to return to their original non-pregnant state. For example, if the uterus is restored to its original normal non-pregnant state, it takes about 6-8 weeks. The vagina undergoes a process of expansion due to childbirth, and then mucosal wrinkles appear again 3 weeks after giving birth. However, after the confinement period, the vagina cannot return to the anxiety level before pregnancy. The time required to return to the non-pregnant state varies according to the number of weeks of pregnancy. The longer the number of weeks of pregnancy, the longer it takes to recover.

Abortion includes medical abortion, surgical abortion, and natural abortion. The bleeding time of medical abortion is relatively long, about 7-10 days, and you must have a follow-up ultrasound after 10 days. Because although the bleeding of some women stops in about 7 days, there will still be a large amount of residue in the uterine cavity, and curettage and dilation and surgery should be performed when necessary to restore the shape of the uterus. The bleeding time of abortion surgery is relatively short, and it will end in 3-7 days. The bleeding is similar to the 4th to 5th day of menstruation.

The success rate of abortion surgery is relatively high, but follow-up B-ultrasound is still required. If it is a spontaneous abortion, even though the gestational sac has been expelled, there is still a lot of endometrial tissue in the uterine cavity, and the bleeding time is similar to that after medical abortion, which is about 10 days. At this time, you need to have a follow-up B-ultrasound, because although you will take blood-activating and blood-stasis-removing drugs and anti-inflammatory drugs after miscarriage, it is impossible to determine whether the endometrial tissue can be completely removed.
