Treatment method: Nourish the kidney qi and regulate menstruation.

Prescription: Yishen Tongjing Decoction (Practical Gynecological Prescriptions) plus placenta.

10 grams each of Rehmannia glutinosa, Chinese angelica, red peony root, pine nut seed, zedoaria, Selaginella, Epimedium, Dipsacus asper, Achyranthes bidentata, and Salvia miltiorrhiza, and 15 grams of Cnidium monnieri.

Additions and subtractions: If the limbs are cold and there is fear of cold, add cinnamon to warm the kidney yang and dredge the meridians; if the leucorrhea is cold and the waist and abdomen are sore, add purple quartz and Morinda officinalis to warm the kidney and uterus; if there is also spleen deficiency, add Sijunzi Decoction.

Dosage: Decoction in water and take in divided doses, 1 dose per day.

2. Liver and kidney deficiency syndrome,

Main symptoms: scanty menstruation in the late stage, gradually leading to amenorrhea, dizziness, blurred vision, sore waist and knees, heel pain, dry genitals. Very little vaginal discharge, or even no discharge, or insomnia and forgetfulness, pale tongue with thin coating, deep, thready and weak pulse.

Treatment method: Nourish the kidneys and liver and regulate menstruation.

Prescription: Guishen Pills (Jingyue Complete Works) plus Millettia reticulata and Polygonum multiflorum.

12 grams each of Rehmannia glutinosa and yam, 6 grams of Cornus officinalis, 10 grams each of Poria cocos, Lycium barbarum, Eucommia ulmoides, Cuscuta australis, and Angelica sinensis.

Dosage: Decoction in water and take in divided doses, 1 dose per day.

Add or subtract: If the throat is dry and the palms and soles are hot, add 6 grams each of Anemarrhena asphodeloides and Rehmannia glutinosa to clear away the heat; if the patient tends to sigh and has poor appetite, add 10 grams each of processed Cyperus rotundus and Codonopsis pilosula to regulate the liver and strengthen the spleen, which is beneficial to the production of essence and blood; if the patient suffers from forgetfulness and insomnia, add 6 grams each of fried Ziziphus jujuba seeds and Schisandra chinensis and 15 grams of Polygonum multiflorum to nourish the blood and calm the mind.

3. Qi and blood deficiency syndrome

Main symptoms: Menstruation is gradually delayed, the amount is small, the menstruation is light in color and thin, and then it stops menstruating, or there is dizziness, palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, or loss of appetite, dull or easy hair loss, emaciation and sallow skin, slow or weak pulse, pale tongue with little or thin white coating.

Treatment method: Tonify Qi, nourish blood and regulate menstruation.

Prescription: Ginseng Yangrong Decoction (Taiping Huimin Hejijufang).

10 grams of ginseng, 6 grams each of cinnamon heart and roasted licorice, 10 grams each of stir-fried angelica, white peony, cooked rehmannia, atractylodes, and poria, and 12 grams of astragalus.

Dosage: decoct in water and take divided into two doses, 1 dose per day.
