10 grams each of raw rehmannia, cooked rehmannia, and white peony root, 6 grams of Anemarrhena asphodeloides, 9 grams each of Radix Rehmanniae and Ophiopogon japonicus, and 6 grams of roasted licorice.

Dosage: Decoction in water and take in divided doses, 1 dose per day.

Add or subtract: If the patient has severe hot flashes due to deficiency, add 6g of Artemisia annua and 10g of turtle shell; if there is cough and spitting blood, add 6g of Schisandra chinensis, 9g each of Lilium and Fritillaria cirrhosa, and 10g of donkey-hide gelatin (stewed); if the patient has restlessness, insomnia and palpitations, add 12g each of Platycladus orientalis and Polygonum multiflorum; if the patient suffers from amenorrhea caused by dry blood due to burning of yin by real fire, add 10g each of Scrophularia ningpoensis and Phellodendron chinense to the prescription; if there is tuberculosis, anti-tuberculosis treatment should be given at the same time.

5. Qi stagnation and blood stasis syndrome

Main symptoms: amenorrhea for several months, depression, irritability, chest and flank distension, lower abdominal distension and pain or pain that is resistant to pressure, dark purple edges of the tongue or petechiae, deep and stringy or deep and astringent pulse.

Treatment method: Regulate Qi and activate blood circulation, remove blood stasis and dredge menstruation.

Prescription: Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction (from "Medical Errors Correction").

10 grams each of peach kernel, safflower, angelica, and raw rehmannia, 6 grams of Chuanxiong, 12 grams each of red peony root and Achyranthes bidentata, 5 grams each of Platycodon, Bupleurum, Citrus aurantium, and licorice.

Dosage: Decoction in water and take in divided doses, 1 dose per day.

Add or subtract: If the patient is suffering from qi stagnation and the symptoms include severe distension of the chest, flanks and lower abdomen, add 9g of Curcuma Atractylodes, 6g each of Citrus aurantium and Aucklandia lappa to the above formula; if the patient is suffering from blood stasis and the symptoms include pain in the lower abdomen that refuses to be pressed, add 9g each of Curcuma longa and Trillium to the above formula; if qi stagnation turns into fire and the symptoms include bitter taste in the mouth and irritability, distension of the chest and flanks, red tongue with thin yellow coating, and stringy and rapid pulse, add 9g each of Scutellaria baicalensis and Gardenia jasminoides to clear the liver fire; if the patient has liver depression and spleen deficiency, with poor appetite and loose stools, use Xiaoyao Powder with added ingredients instead.
