What to do about postpartum rheumatic fever?

Everyone knows that new mothers need to stay in confinement after giving birth. This is to allow them to do moderate exercise and rest during this period, to restore the uterus to its pre-delivery size, to slowly change their bad physical condition, and to keep postpartum rheumatism out of the door. Therefore, many people know that they must actively prevent various diseases during the confinement period. So, why is it easy to get rheumatic disease after giving birth?

Causes of postpartum rheumatism

1. No warmth

After giving birth, pregnant women sweat profusely but do not remove the sweat in time, and do not keep warm in time, which gives colds and other diseases a chance to take advantage of the situation and invade the body.

2. The house is damp

If the living environment is limited and the mother's bedroom is dark and damp, it may also cause blood circulation obstruction. During the confinement period, if the doors and windows are not closed tightly, the mother will be exposed to the wind and may suffer from postpartum rheumatism.

3. Overwork too early

After giving birth, pregnant women need to rest well. If they do not get enough rest and overwork themselves, it may cause many hidden dangers to their body. Pregnant women who wash clothes with cold water during the confinement period are likely to suffer from pain in their hand joints and develop severe rheumatism.

4. Take a cold shower

When pregnant women take a bath, if they want to stay cool and the bath water is relatively cold, the close contact between the body and the cold water will stimulate the already very weak body to be cold. The body cannot resist the invasion of cold water and it is easy to suffer from joint pain and rheumatism. Typical symptoms of postpartum rheumatism

Aversion to wind, chills, and pain in muscles and joints throughout the body.

Some patients often experience headaches, dizziness, aversion to wind, orbital pain, dry eyes and excessive tearing. Others feel a wind drilling through the gaps between their joints and muscles, that is, whenever they feel a cool breeze, they feel as if the wind is drilling into their bones. Severe patients have to wrap the affected areas with thick quilts or cotton clothes to feel comfortable even in hot summer. It should be noted that the results of blood tests for rheumatoid factor, anti-O and erythrocyte sedimentation rate in such patients are mostly normal. Anti-rheumatic drugs are ineffective for this type of patients, indicating that the disease is not only a rheumatic disease, but is also related to postpartum anemia and wind, cold and dampness in the blood, so it is called "postpartum rheumatism." Types of postpartum rheumatism

Different types of postpartum rheumatic disease have different symptoms. The following are some common ones:

1. Wind attacking blood vessels

The clinical manifestations are wandering pain in muscles and joints, spontaneous sweating and aversion to wind, with symptoms worsening later, accompanied by headache, dizziness, and pain in the brow bone, which is aggravated by wind. No dry mouth, no preference for drinking water, pale tongue with thin white coating, and floating pulse.

2. Cold blood stasis type

Clinical manifestations include severe pain in the muscles and joints of the limbs accompanied by chills and fear of cold. Symptoms worsen when exposed to cold and alleviated when exposed to heat. The tongue is pale with white coating and the pulse is tight and stringy.

3. Dampness and stagnation of blood vessels

Clinical manifestations include soreness, heaviness and numbness in the muscles and joints of the limbs, but the locations are relatively fixed. The tongue is slightly fat, the tongue coating is white and greasy, and the pulse is soft and slow.

4. Mixed cold and heat type

The clinical manifestations are alternating hot and cold pains in the joints and muscles of the limbs, or fear of cold but not cool to the touch, dry mouth; preference for drinking water, irritability, insomnia, dry stools, yellow urine, red tip of the tongue, thin yellow fur, and a stringy and rapid pulse. The characteristics of this type are false cold on the outside and real heat on the inside. Can postpartum rheumatism be cured?

Regarding postpartum rheumatism, Western medicine generally classifies it as joint pain, for which Western medicine has no data, medicines or methods.

Traditional Chinese Medicine: It has a history of more than 3,000 years. In addition to the method of removing evil and curing arthritis, it also pays attention to invigorating Qi and nourishing blood, tonifying the liver and kidneys. It believes that medicines should be tonic but not too stagnant, wind-clearing medicines should not be too pungent, dampness-eliminating medicines should not be too harsh and dry, and blood and flesh-invigorating medicines should not be too nourishing and greasy. The treatment method commonly used is nourishing blood, activating blood circulation, warming the meridians, dispersing cold and removing dampness. At the same time, nourishing blood is the main focus, while slightly promoting blood circulation. Do not use strong wind-clearing drugs.

Patients may need acupuncture, massage, medicated diet and other treatments at the same time to achieve a synergistic effect. You need to improve your physical fitness through exercise to prevent recurrence.

If postpartum rheumatism is treated properly, the symptoms can be basically relieved in 1-3 months and can be cured, but it will relapse, so good maintenance is required.
