What to do if progesterone is low and you have threatened abortion

Many women will experience a threatened miscarriage when their progesterone level is low. If a woman has a threatened miscarriage, the harm is very great. The low progesterone level in threatened miscarriage must be adjusted as soon as possible. If the low progesterone level is not improved in time, it may cause a second miscarriage. If it is ignored, it will cause a real miscarriage. So what should be done if the progesterone level is low during threatened miscarriage?

Progesterone is also known as progesterone. Progesterone is a natural progestogen secreted by the corpus luteum of the ovary. It has a significant morphological effect on the estrogen-stimulated endometrium in the body and is necessary for maintaining pregnancy.

What does progesterone do for women?

1. Progesterone inhibits uterine contractions

Progesterone can change the permeability of the uterine muscle cell membrane to ions, causing the membrane to be in a hyperpolarized state, thereby reducing the excitability of the uterine muscle and at the same time reducing the sensitivity of the uterine muscle to various stimuli (especially oxytocin). Therefore, the pregnant uterus does not undergo violent and progressive contractions, the embryo is not affected, and the pregnancy is maintained.

Consequences of low progesterone: It increases the excitability of the uterine muscles and invisibly enhances the sensitivity of the uterine muscles, making it more likely for fetal growth retardation or miscarriage to occur, and the fetus may be in danger.

2. Progesterone maintains the membrane removal reaction

Decidual cells are transformed from endometrial stromal cells and contain glycogen granules, which provide nutrition to the blastocyst. Injecting pregnant mice with "rabbit anti-mouse decidua serum" can cause miscarriage, indicating the importance of decidua in maintaining pregnancy. Removal of both ovaries of animals with pseudopregnancy decidual reaction can cause necrosis and liquefaction of the decidua; if exogenous progesterone is given, decidual degeneration can be prevented. It can be seen that progesterone is necessary to maintain the decidual reaction.

The consequences of low progesterone: first, the membrane unbending reaction cannot be maintained, the embryo is insufficiently supplied with nutrients, and can cause miscarriage.

3. Progesterone suppresses immune response

The fertilized egg is a "semi-allogeneic transplant" (Semiallograft), but why is it not rejected by the mother's immune system when it implants? Some people have found that when certain tumor cells are transplanted into the uterine cavity of animals, the tumor cells are not rejected and implanted into the uterine wall only in animals injected with progesterone, indicating that progesterone can inhibit the immune response. By the same token, during a normal pregnancy, the increase in progesterone can prevent the embryo from being rejected by the mother and maintain the pregnancy.

Consequences of low progesterone: If there is insufficient progesterone, the embryo will be rejected by the mother as a foreign body, leading to miscarriage.

How to treat low progesterone

Progesterone is necessary to maintain pregnancy, so it is called the "pregnancy" hormone. If the progesterone level is low, the fetus cannot develop normally, resulting in miscarriage or even fetal arrest.

If a pregnant woman's progesterone level is too low, she can take progesterone supplements, injections, progesterone, etc. under the guidance of a doctor to supplement the required level. If a pregnant woman is found to have low progesterone levels, she must seek timely treatment to avoid serious consequences due to missing the best treatment period.

You must pay attention. Low progesterone is very serious and will cause great consequences and harm to people. When low progesterone appears, you must supplement your nutrition in time. At the same time, you must also remember to supplement yourself with regular progesterone. Such supplementation can improve your physical symptoms. You must also supplement yourself with folic acid during pregnancy to prevent fetal deformities.
