The difference between endometriosis and uterine fibroids

The difference between endometriosis and uterine fibroids

Sometimes female friends find that their menstrual flow is heavy, and they suspect that they have uterine disease. In fact, both endometriosis and uterine fibroids can cause excessive menstrual flow, but their treatment methods are very different. So here comes the point, what is the difference between endometriosis and uterine fibroids? If female friends are not clear about this, let’s take a look at it below. I hope everyone can learn more.

Uterine fibroids are difficult to distinguish because they are in the early stages and are not very typical when examined with color Doppler ultrasound. In fact, typical uterine fibroids can be seen with color Doppler ultrasound as low-echo areas in the myometrium, but endometriosis can generally be seen with color Doppler ultrasound as chocolate cysts.

In terms of clinical manifestations, uterine fibroids usually manifest as abnormal menstrual cycles. For example, my mother experienced symptoms such as prolonged menstrual cycles and increased menstrual volume. These are obvious manifestations in many patients with uterine fibroids. If it is endometriosis, there will also be increased menstrual volume and a longer cycle. However, there are also some patients who present with normal menstrual cycles, and there are quite a few of them.

In fact, doctors say that the most prominent difference is in women's menstruation. Generally, uterine fibroids will not cause dysmenorrhea, but even if there is dysmenorrhea, there will not be much difference. The degree of dysmenorrhea is basically about the same every time. However, endometriosis will cause dysmenorrhea due to changes in the position of the endometrium, and most patients will have increasingly severe dysmenorrhea. It is a slowly worsening dysmenorrhea that the patient can feel if he is careful.

After the above introduction, I believe that female friends should have a certain understanding of the difference between endometriosis and uterine fibroids. In fact, in our daily life, there are many ways to judge endometriosis and uterine fibroids. We should all learn more so that we can best prescribe the right medicine.
