Episiotomy suture method

Episiotomy suture method

Childbirth is generally divided into two types: natural childbirth and cesarean section. For natural childbirth, if the baby is large or the vaginal opening is small, in order to avoid infection and harm to the pregnant woman caused by irregular tearing, the hospital will generally perform episiotomy and suture on the pregnant woman to assist the mother in childbirth. So what exactly is the episiotomy and suture? The following is an analysis of the episiotomy and suture.

Episiotomy and suture are the most commonly performed obstetric surgery. The purpose is to avoid severe perineal lacerations caused by natural childbirth and surgery, or to avoid obstructed delivery due to a tight perineum. There are two types of incision: lateral incision and median incision. In clinical practice, lateral incision is more commonly used because it is beneficial for expanding the vaginal surgical field and will not injure the rectum due to prolonged incision. Its disadvantages are that there is a lot of bleeding when the tissue is incised and severe pain after the operation. A median incision may damage the anal sphincter or even the rectum and is rarely used. Common nursing problems include: ① pain; ② risk of infection.

Median perineal incision and suture: Suitable for ① The fetus is not large and its estimated weight is <3200 grams. ②The perineum is higher. ③ The delivery technique is skilled and it is estimated that third-degree perineal laceration will not occur.

Episiotomy and suture: Suitable for ① The fetus is large, with an estimated weight ≥ 3200 grams, and is not suitable for direct incision. ② Those who need to deliver the fetus quickly due to maternal or fetal factors. ③ Routine assisted incision for primiparas with forceps delivery, vacuum extraction, and breech delivery.

For pregnant women, they give birth with excitement, nervousness and immense courage to welcome their little angels. When they see the innocent and lovely babies, all the suffering and pain are bearable and worth it. Although episiotomy and suture is the most commonly used operation in obstetrics, it is still a very cruel operation in terms of the physical pain it causes to pregnant women and the risk of infection after delivery. Unless this operation is absolutely necessary, it is generally hoped that hospitals can improve this operation to minimize the harm to the mother.
