How to treat chronic mastitis

How to treat chronic mastitis

Now is an era where various diseases are prevalent, and mastitis is of course no exception. However, there is a group of people who are at high risk of chronic mastitis, and that is breastfeeding mothers. Because breastfeeding mothers often fail to discharge milk in time, it causes backlog and forms nodules, which leads to chronic mastitis. So here comes the question we are going to talk about today, how to treat chronic mastitis, let's learn about it from both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine.

1. Western Medicine

Surgical treatment of chronic mastitis: radial incision and drainage to avoid damaging the milk network, areola, and nipple; for small and shallow breast abscesses, needle puncture and pus extraction can be used, and breast healing cream (patch) or golden powder can be applied externally; fire needle drainage can also be used, with a thicker metal needle (4 mm) or a three-edged needle, burned red with a flame, and quickly inserted into the abscess. Then pull it out quickly.

2. Traditional Chinese Medicine

Treatment stages of chronic mastitis:

1. Early days

The initial stage of the treatment of chronic mastitis is mainly manifested by milk stasis and internal heat and toxicity. The treatment principles are detoxification, clearing heat, promoting lactation and reducing swelling. Oral medicine: decoction for the treatment of chronic mastitis: the treatment of chronic mastitis can use trichosanthes and burdock decoction with modifications: trichosanthes, burdock seeds, radix trichosanthis, scutellaria, tangerine peel, gardenia, honeysuckle, bupleurum, forsythia, pangolin, fenugreek, scutellaria baicalensis, and qi stagnation with tangerine leaves and chuanzi; add gypsum if fever is obvious, use more scutellaria, and add frankincense, myrrh, and red spoon for swelling and pain.

Preparation medicine for the treatment of chronic mastitis: Since the Sanjiedan No. 1 developed by our institute was put into clinical treatment of chronic mastitis, the therapeutic effect of chronic mastitis is obvious. Dosage: 100 pills each time, three times a day. Topical medications: external application of golden ointment, jade dew ointment or Glauber's salt solution, or external application of breast healing ointment. It is simple, convenient and effective. In the initial stage, pay attention to keeping milk discharge unobstructed.

2. Purulent stage

There are two principles for the treatment of chronic mastitis in the pus stage: the first is to stop breastfeeding; the second is to fully drain the pus. Treatment of chronic mastitis: clear away heat and detoxify, discharge toxins and drain pus. The prescription of Sanjiedan No. 1 or Tounongsan is modified: Angelica sinensis, raw rhubarb, pangolin, Sichuan pepper, soapberry thorn, wild chrysanthemum, dandelion, plantain, scutellaria, honeysuckle, platycodon, raw licorice, charred hawthorn, and charred malt.

The above discusses how to treat chronic mastitis from the perspectives of Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine. Of course, each has its own convenience. Western medicine can quickly discharge pus, while traditional Chinese medicine treats both the symptoms and the root cause, and the effect is slightly slower. But no matter which one, it must be performed by a professional doctor, so you must go to a regular hospital to avoid delaying the condition.
