Is yellowish brown vaginal discharge harmful?

Leucorrhea is a viscous liquid secreted by the female reproductive organ, which has a bactericidal effect on women. Therefore, the health of leucorrhea can reflect women's health problems. Leucorrhea comes in many colors. Generally healthy people can guess from the literal meaning that leucorrhea must be white, while some women have yellowish-brown leucorrhea. Most women do not take this problem seriously, and the consequences are often serious. So, is yellowish-brown leucorrhea harmful?

Brown discharge from vaginal discharge is a symptom of abnormal vaginal discharge and should be taken seriously. Abnormal vaginal discharge may simply be an increase in amount, or it may also be accompanied by changes in color, texture, and odor.

Diagnostic criteria

Identify gynecological diseases by looking at the color of leucorrhea:

Generally speaking, pathological leucorrhea is mostly inflammatory leucorrhea, leucorrhea caused by tumors and leucorrhea caused by foreign bodies. The following pathological leucorrhea are common symptoms:

1. Colorless, transparent, sticky leucorrhea: It is egg white-like and similar in properties to the mucus secreted by the cervical glands during ovulation, but the amount of secretion is significantly increased compared to usual. Generally, the possibility of chronic endocervicitis, ovarian dysfunction, vaginal adenosis, or well-differentiated cervical adenocarcinoma should be considered.

2. White or grayish yellow foamy leucorrhea: It is a characteristic of Trichomonas vaginitis and may be accompanied by vulvar itching.

3. Curd-like leucorrhea: It is a characteristic of candidal vaginitis, often accompanied by severe vulvar itching or burning pain.

4. Gray homogeneous leucorrhea with fishy smell: thin, small to large amount, unpleasant smell, commonly seen in bacterial vaginosis.

5. Purulent leucorrhea: yellow or yellow-green in color, sticky, and often smelly. It can be caused by acute vaginitis, cervicitis, and endocervicitis caused by bacteria such as Trichomonas or gonococci. Pyometra, cervical cancer, vaginal cancer or foreign objects retained in the vagina can also cause pus-like leucorrhea.

6. Bloody leucorrhea: If there is blood mixed in the leucorrhea, cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical polyps or submucosal fibroids should be considered. Insertion of an intrauterine device can also cause bloody leucorrhea.

Although leucorrhea is a reproductive fluid secreted by females, the color change of this fluid is the best indication of physical health. Women can carefully understand the types of diseases represented by the color of leucorrhea, and strive to be able to identify physical problems based on the color of leucorrhea every time. Finally, I hope all women can have a healthy body.
