What is bleeding between periods?

The most common phenomenon during menstruation is bleeding, which is a normal physiological phenomenon of the shedding of the female endometrium. Menstruation has a certain periodicity. It usually lasts about 7 days. After a menstrual period, the next menstrual period will occur about 30 days later. However, some people bleed between two menstrual periods. What is going on?

Between two menstrual periods, that is, during ovulation, the estrogen level decreases, but not too low. This level is enough to keep the endometrium from necrotizing and shedding, and thus prevent bleeding. If the estrogen level drops too low at this time, the endometrium will lack hormonal support and will atrophy, fall off, and necrotize, manifesting as vaginal bleeding. This is ovulation bleeding. After ovulation, as the levels of estrogen and progesterone gradually increase, the endometrium gradually repairs and the bleeding stops naturally.

It is not difficult to identify ovulation bleeding. First, according to clinical manifestations, it often occurs between two menstruations, about the 12th to 16th day of the menstrual cycle, and is cyclical; sometimes accompanied by bloating and pain in the lower abdomen on one side, back pain, increased and thin leucorrhea. Secondly, it can be confirmed through examination. As long as the basal body temperature is measured, if there is a small amount of vaginal bleeding within 2 to 3 days before and after the basal body temperature rises, it can be determined as ovulation bleeding.

Ovulation bleeding is sometimes very little, with only spotting, and sometimes it is like a small amount of menstrual period. There is rarely heavy bleeding and blood clots. For a few people, bleeding time may be longer, until the next menstruation. Sometimes the condition returns to normal on its own without treatment after a few menstrual periods, but sometimes it recurs repeatedly. Ovulation bleeding generally does not affect your health, but frequent bleeding can cause inconvenience to your life and also reduce the chances of conception. Because it is not suitable to have sexual intercourse during the bleeding period, but this is the time of ovulation. Not having sex will of course reduce the chance of conception. If you have sex after the bleeding stops, the egg will have died.

If ovulation bleeding occurs repeatedly and the amount is heavy, you should go to the hospital for examination. First, a hysteroscopy should be performed. If endometrial polyps are found, laparoscopic electrosurgical resection can be performed. If the uterine cavity is normal, ovulation bleeding is mostly caused by decreased estrogen. You can take a small amount of estrogen under the guidance of a doctor 2 to 3 days before the expected bleeding. If you take 1/4 tablet of Premarin for 1 to 2 days and it stops the bleeding, you can take this dose for 6 menstrual cycles. If bleeding still occurs, you can increase the dosage of estrogen under the guidance of a doctor and observe whether the bleeding stops after stopping the medication. For some people, bleeding can stop after using hormones, but for a few people, bleeding is prone to relapse after stopping the medication. These people can be treated with traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that ovulation bleeding is caused by insufficient kidney yin or internal accumulation of damp heat, or by internal blood stasis, which leads to internal movement of yang energy, uncoordinated transformation of yin and yang, damage to the yin collaterals, and instability of the Chong and Ren meridians, thus causing vaginal bleeding. Among them, those with kidney yin deficiency are characterized by bright red, thick menstrual blood without blood clots, soreness of the waist and knees, dizziness and tinnitus. They can take Liuwei Dihuang Pills; those with damp heat are characterized by bright red, sticky blood, or blood in the leucorrhea, irritability and dry mouth. They can take medication according to the doctor's advice; if ovulation bleeding is purple or black, or there are blood clots, and lower abdominal pain occurs, Yunnan Baiyao Capsules can be taken. Traditional Chinese medicine is effective in treating bleeding during menopause and is superior to sex hormone treatment.

The above are the main reasons for bleeding between menstruation. Women should pay special attention to their physical condition after bleeding occurs multiple times or lasts for a long time. It is pathological. You should go to the hospital for some examinations to confirm what kind of illness you have.
