What should be paid attention to when maintaining the cesarean section incision?

We all know that giving birth to a baby is very harmful to a woman's body, especially for women who have a cesarean section. Postpartum recovery is also crucial, and it takes a certain amount of time to recover after a cesarean section. At the same time, in order for our incision to recover better, we must pay more attention to maintenance after a cesarean section. Let us understand what we need to pay attention to in the maintenance of a cesarean section incision?

What should be paid attention to when maintaining the cesarean section incision?

Do-it-yourself care

1. Do not get the wound wet or dirty before it heals. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately and apply betadine.

2. After the operation, the doctor will apply cosmetic glue on the wound and then cover it with gauze. The gauze can be removed after 4 days, or immediately if it is damp. The cosmetic glue should be torn off after about a week and replaced with ventilation paper tape.

3. After showering, tear off all the tape on the wound, wipe the wound dry (no need to apply medicine), and then stick 2 pieces of 3M breathable paper tape, 2.5 cm wide, along the wound.

4. The breathable paper tape must be applied flat and close to the wound to compress the scar to prevent it from becoming wider and thicker. Change it every 3 to 4 days. It can come into contact with water. After contact with water, use a dry towel to dry the surface. Apply one layer after one month and continue for 3 to 6 months.

5. If you experience allergic reactions when using breathable paper tape, such as rash, redness, or skin breakage, do not use it temporarily and continue using it after the symptoms improve.

6. For people with flat wounds, use breathable paper tape. For pregnant women who are prone to allergies or scars, use silicone gel as instructed by the doctor.

7. Gently massage the wound with your fingers for 3 to 5 minutes every day to reduce scar formation.

8. Avoid exposing the wound to direct sunlight, which will deepen the color of the scar. If there are scabs, do not scratch them with your hands, let them fall off naturally.

9. If the abdominal wound is red, swollen, burning, painful, or has exudate, please return to the hospital for treatment.

10. Avoid pulling the wound and do postpartum exercises after one month.

Daily life care method

1. The cleaning of the perineum is the same as that of a natural birth, but a natural birth requires boiled water, while a caesarean section only requires hot water from the bathroom. Sleeping on your left side is best for blood circulation, and you can change your sleeping position during the sleep.

2. After removing the gauze from the wound, cover the wound with a dry towel and then put on a belly band to reduce friction and discomfort.

3. The material of the corset should be soft and not too wide to avoid discomfort when used for a long time.

4. Before coughing, laughing or getting out of bed, use your hands and a belly band to fix the wound area.

5. When getting out of bed, lie on your side first, use your hands to support your body to get up, and avoid sitting up directly with abdominal strength.

6. After the operation, a small amount of lochia will flow out of the vagina, which can be kept dry with sanitary napkins. However, if the amount of blood exceeds the menstrual volume, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible.

7. Urinate every 3-4 hours and pay attention to whether you feel burning or stinging when urinating to prevent urinary tract infection.

8. Do not lose weight quickly to avoid fat loss, sagging internal organs, and loose skin.

9. Return to hospital for follow-up on the 7th and 42nd day after delivery

Diet care method

The initial diet after cesarean section is mainly to clear lochia and promote wound healing. It is best to eat all food and drinks warm, including fruits. It is recommended to warm them with hot water before eating.

1. Gastrointestinal function will recover about 24 hours after cesarean section. After the gastrointestinal function recovers, liquid food is given for one day, such as egg soup and rice soup. After the intestinal gas is cleared, switch to semi-liquid food for 1-2 days, such as porridge, noodle soup, wontons, etc., and then switch to a normal diet.

2. Initially, you can take chicken soup, meat soup, fish soup and other soups as tonic, but do not add wine. (Be sure to skim off the greasy fat on the soup)

3. Pork liver helps to discharge lochia and replenish blood, and is the best solid food choice for women who have undergone cesarean section.

4. Desserts can also help eliminate lochia.

5. Mothers with poor uterine contraction can take avocado oil to help smooth muscle contraction and improve constipation.

6. Fish and vitamin C help wound healing.

7. Due to heavy blood loss, mothers should eat more iron-containing foods to replenish blood.

8. Chinese medicinal materials such as astragalus, wolfberry, and red dates can be added to medicinal dietary supplements.

After understanding what you need to pay attention to when caring for the cesarean section incision, mothers who are undergoing cesarean section must pay great attention to it. Don't always think that it's no big deal after the baby is born. In fact, it is not like that. Your own health is more important. Only by ensuring your own health and faster healing of the incision can you take better care of the baby.
