How to calculate ovulation period for women with irregular menstruation

Basal body temperature detection

Basal body temperature is usually measured after waking up, when the body is not moving at all. Before ovulation, the body temperature is low. After ovulation, the body temperature will rise by 0.3 to 0.5°C and continue until 2 days before menstruation, when it starts to drop.

Since there are many factors that affect changes in body temperature, if you use the basal body temperature method, you must insist on measuring it every day, especially when approaching the ovulation period. Draw a curve on the basal body temperature chart. Generally, you should measure it continuously for at least 3 menstrual cycles before you can summarize your own ovulation pattern.

B-ultrasound follicle monitoring

The so-called B-ultrasound follicle monitoring is generally done by vaginal B-ultrasound, and the results are the most accurate.

Generally speaking, starting from the 8th day of the menstrual cycle, ultrasound monitoring should be done once every 2 days. When the diameter of the follicle is found to be 17 mm, monitoring should be changed to once a day. When the follicle matures and reaches a diameter of 20-23 mm, it should be measured twice a day if necessary until ovulation.

Using ovulation test strips

Collect urine in a clean, dry container. Urine within a day can be tested, but first-morning urine is usually not used. The best time to collect urine is from 10 am to 8 pm. During the testing process for several consecutive days, it is best to use urine samples collected at the same time every day.

If a red strip appears in the test result, that is, the control line is colored and the test line is not colored, it means no ovulation; if two red strips appear and the test line is significantly lighter than the control line, it means that the LH peak in the urine has not yet appeared and daily testing must be continued; if two colored strips appear and the test line is equal to or darker than the control line, it means that the LH peak has appeared, which means that ovulation will occur within 24-48 hours.
