Does COVID-19 recovery mean recovery? What else should we pay attention to? Let's listen to Liu Qingquan's advice!

How to use medicine scientifically after infection? What should you pay attention to after recovery? ——Authoritative experts answer hot issues about epidemic prevention

At present, the goal of COVID-19 prevention and control is to protect health and prevent severe illness. How to use medicine scientifically after being infected with COVID-19? What precautions should be taken after recovery? How long can I exercise? For people who are not infected with COVID-19, will blood donation increase the risk of infection? In response to the hot issues of public concern, the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council organized authoritative experts in related fields to answer them.

How to use medication scientifically after infection?

Gao Yan, director of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Peking University People's Hospital, said that after being infected with the new coronavirus, clinical symptoms such as high fever will appear. When the body temperature exceeds 38.5 degrees Celsius, the human body will feel very uncomfortable and some antipyretic drugs are needed at this time.

Gao Yan said that if the patient has some chronic diseases, such as gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, or some basic gastrointestinal diseases, he should not take antipyretic analgesics on an empty stomach. In addition, intensive use of drugs may induce symptoms such as gastrointestinal bleeding. It is safer to take some gastric mucosal protective agents and then take antipyretic analgesics.

"For most COVID-19 patients, mild symptoms are the main concern and symptomatic treatment will be enough. Antitussive, antitussive and expectorant drugs are relatively safe." Gao Yan reminded that many drugs may interact with each other clinically, especially for people with more serious chronic underlying diseases, who should use medications under the guidance of medical institutions and doctors.

What to pay attention to after recovery

Liu Qingquan, director of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine affiliated to Capital Medical University, said that 7 to 10 days after being infected with the new coronavirus, most people will enter a state of recovery, and the nucleic acid or antigen may turn negative, but there will still be some symptoms, such as coughing and sore throat. During the recovery period, patients should maintain a high morale.

Liu Qingquan reminded that after recovery, people should not eat or drink too much, but should maintain a light diet, strengthen nutrition, take in enough protein, eat more vegetables and fruits, and ensure physical recovery. At the same time, the pace of life and work should be appropriately slowed down, and do not stay up late.

For those who have returned to work after recovery, Gao Yan said that if their fever subsides and their physical strength improves significantly, they can return to work. However, some respiratory symptoms may recover more slowly, and they should still stay in bed and rest more during the fever period.

How long after recovery can I exercise again?

Liu Qingquan reminded that moderate exercise is beneficial to restoring health, but strenuous exercise is not recommended. Excessive exercise will not only fail to restore health, but may also cause some other problems.

Liu Qingquan said that you can choose moderate exercise according to your own exercise habits, not exceeding one-third of your usual exercise amount, and gradually increase the amount.

Gao Yan said that for young and middle-aged people, the recovery period will be shorter and will not affect the resumption of work and production. However, high-intensity fitness exercises should be slowed down, and attention should be paid to rest and nutrition to return to normal as soon as possible.

"For the elderly over 60 years old, especially those with chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, etc., they should pay special attention to respiratory symptoms, such as whether symptoms such as cough, chest tightness, and shortness of breath are getting worse." Gao Yan introduced that these respiratory symptoms may continue after the nucleic acid or antigen test turns negative in about a week. It is more beneficial to health to resume normal exercise after the condition has been significantly alleviated.

For people who have not been infected with the new coronavirus, will donating blood increase the risk of infection?

"A healthy adult's blood donation does not exceed 13% of his or her total blood volume, which has no adverse effects on the body." Guo Jin, deputy chief technician of the Beijing Red Cross Blood Center, introduced that the total blood volume of a healthy adult is about 8% of his or her body weight. If a 50-kilogram person donates 200 or 400 milliliters of blood, it accounts for 5% or 10% of his or her total blood volume. The proportion will be even lower for people with heavier weight.

Guo Jin said that blood donation is the collection of peripheral blood from the human body. After blood donation, the blood in the blood storage organs such as the liver, spleen, and lungs will be quickly replenished into the peripheral blood to restore the circulating blood volume. Blood donation will not affect health or increase the risk of infection with the new coronavirus.

What are the conditions for donating blood after being infected with COVID-19? Is the donated blood safe?

Guo Jin introduced that for those who have been infected with the novel coronavirus, asymptomatic, mild or common cases, they can donate blood one week after the symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection such as fever, cough and sore throat completely disappear, and 7 days after the last positive nucleic acid or antigen test. If they are severely or critically infected, they need to recover for 6 months before donating blood.

"This standard is consistent with the international requirements on delaying blood donation after being infected with the new coronavirus, as well as the current requirements for delaying blood donation for people with respiratory and lung infections, and will not cause harm to the health of blood donors," said Guo Jin.

Regarding the question of whether blood donated by donors who have been infected with the new coronavirus is safe, Guo Jin said that the new coronavirus is a respiratory virus and will not be transmitted through blood transfusion. So far, there have been no reports of the new coronavirus being transmitted through blood transfusion in the world. The blood donated by donors who have recovered from the new coronavirus is safe in itself. The blood station will strictly manage the blood collection and supply to ensure that the infected person recovers and donates blood after a period of health observation.
