Nielsen: 2013 Mobile Consumer Report: China's smartphone penetration rate reaches 66%

On February 26, 2013, Nielsen released the "2013 Mobile Consumer Report", which showed that the smartphone penetration rate in China reached 66%, surpassing the penetration rates in the United States and the United Kingdom, but ranking behind South Korea.

The report data shows that among the 10 countries selected by Nielsen for research, the penetration rate of smartphones among mobile phone users in each country is: 67% in South Korea, 66% in China, 65% in Australia, 62% in Italy, 61% in the United Kingdom, 53% in the United States, 37% in Russia, 36% in Brazil, 19% in Türkiye, and 10% in India.

The report analyzes that smartphone users have become the choice of most mobile phone users in the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, China, Australia and other places. But in other countries, because the network required by smartphones is still limited to large cities, standard feature phones are still the first choice for mobile phone users in India, Brazil, Russia and other countries. However, this trend has gradually begun to change. Young mobile phone users prefer smartphones, and more and more countries will gradually expand smartphone networks.

In terms of smartphone APP usage, users in most countries prefer games and social network applications. User preferences vary slightly in different countries. For example, smartphone users in the United States choose social networks (85%) and map navigation (84%) the most, while Chinese users choose games (70%) and map navigation (63%) more often. In addition, nearly half (47%) of Korean smartphone users frequently use mobile banking, while this proportion is only 17% in Italy.
