Xiaoyou (pseudonym), a girl with 700-degree myopia and 200-degree astigmatism, said goodbye to thick glasses through femtosecond ICL surgery. On January 3, she happily said during the follow-up that she was afraid of surgery and did not dare to have surgery. She did not expect that the new technology has entered the "no-surgery" era. Xiaoyou, 28 years old this year, has 700-degree myopia and 200-degree astigmatism. Because she is always prone to inflammation when wearing contact lenses, she has to wear thick myopia glasses. Recently, Xiaoyou came to the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University accompanied by her mother, hoping to take off her glasses. After careful examination, Zhang Qingsong, director of the hospital's refractive department, diagnosed that Xiaoyou's eye indications met the requirements for ICL lens implantation surgery. However, Xiaoyou was afraid when she heard that ordinary ICL lens implantation surgery required "surgery". After learning that there was a femtosecond ICL surgery that did not require surgery, Xiaoyou decisively chose the femtosecond ICL. After the surgery, Xiaoyou's vision returned to 1.0. At the "EVO ICL New Progress in Myopia Correction and Femtosecond ICL Technology Launch Conference" held on the 25th of last month, Zhang Qingsong, member of the Refractive Subcommittee of the Ophthalmology Committee of the Chinese Association of Non-public Medical Institutions and director of the Refractive Department of the Aier Eye Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University, said that with the improvement of people's requirements for visual quality and the progress of ophthalmic refractive surgery, ICL lens implantation surgery suitable for correcting high myopia has also entered an era of precision, minimally invasive and bladeless. Zhang Qingsong introduced that ordinary ICL lens implantation is a pure "knife" operation by the doctor, which requires making an incision on the cornea and then implanting the lens. However, the knifeless femtosecond ICL technology can use femtosecond laser to replace the ordinary scalpel to make the incision. The entire process is computer-controlled, and "personalized" parameters are set according to the individual situation of each patient. The femtosecond laser then makes the corneal incision according to the parameters, which effectively improves the safety and accuracy of the operation. It can also reduce the introduction of astigmatism during the operation and improve the patient's postoperative visual quality. ICL surgery is very popular among myopic patients, but correcting refractive errors does not mean curing myopia. Dr. Liu Hongting, deputy chief physician of the refractive department of Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University, said that the surgery only allows patients to see clearly without wearing glasses, but the structure of the eyeball has not changed - once the axial length becomes longer, it will no longer shorten, and the risk of retinal diseases caused by axial length growth will always exist. Patients who undergo myopia surgery should still have regular fundus examinations after surgery to prevent the occurrence of fundus diseases. |
