Leucorrhea is a normal secretion from the female private parts, but the shape and color of leucorrhea can reflect the condition of the female body. In daily life, it is common for the amount of vaginal discharge to be more or less, and some colors may be abnormal. Leucorrhea that is like snot is a problem that many women encounter. So, what happens if the leucorrhea becomes like snot? Let’s take a look below. Under normal circumstances, leucorrhea is colorless and transparent, and easily becomes stringy. This is considered to be the phenomenon of leucorrhea during ovulation, which is a characteristic of leucorrhea that changes during the normal physiological cycle. However, if the leucorrhea is yellow, grayish yellow, or yellow-green like thick nasal discharge, it may be caused by gynecological inflammation. Leucorrhea is a female vaginal discharge, which is a mixture of vaginal mucosal exudates, cervical canal and endometrial gland secretions. Its formation is related to the action of estrogen. Under normal circumstances, the quality and quantity of leucorrhea changes with the menstrual cycle. After the menstruation is over, the leucorrhea is less in amount, white in color and in a paste form. In the middle of the menstrual cycle when the ovaries are about to ovulate, due to the vigorous secretion of the cervical glands, the leucorrhea increases and becomes transparent, slightly sticky, and egg white-like. 2 to 3 days after ovulation, the leucorrhea becomes turbid, thick and sticky but with less amount. Before and after menstruation, due to pelvic congestion, vaginal mucosal exudate increases and leucorrhea often increases. Abnormal manifestations 1. Cheese-like or tofu-like leucorrhea: It is candidal vaginitis, often accompanied by severe vulvar itching or burning pain. 2. Thin, purulent, yellow-green, foamy, foul-smelling leucorrhea is characteristic of Trichomonas vaginitis, accompanied by vulvar pruritus. 3. Grayish white, thin, fishy-smelling leucorrhea is a characteristic of bacterial vaginosis, accompanied by mild vulvar itching. 4. Purulent leucorrhea: yellow or yellow-green in color, sticky, and often has a foul odor, caused by bacterial infection. It can be seen in gonorrheal Neisseria vaginitis, acute cervicitis and endocervicitis, vaginal cancer or cervical cancer complicated by infection. Purulent leucorrhea can also be caused by uterine cavity pyometra or foreign bodies retained in the vagina. 6. Watery leucorrhea: Vaginal discharge that is thin, watery or rice-like and has a fishy odor. It is seen in advanced cervical cancer, vaginal cancer or submucosal fibroids with infection. Intermittent discharge of clear, yellow-red or red watery leucorrhea should be considered as a possible cause of fallopian tube cancer. 7. Bloody leucorrhea: There is blood mixed in the leucorrhea, and the amount of blood varies. Cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical polyps, cervical columnar epithelium ectopia with infection or uterine submucosal fibroids should be considered. Insertion of an intrauterine device can also cause bloody leucorrhea. |
