What to do if you see blood in late pregnancy

Many women will be more careful to protect their bodies after they become pregnant, and their bodies will be weaker after pregnancy, so any accidents may directly affect the development of the fetus. Sometimes women may experience spotting in the late stages of pregnancy due to their physical health. This situation needs to be taken seriously. So what should you do if you see spotting in the late stages of pregnancy?

1. Spotting occurs in the late stages of pregnancy, that is, close to the due date. The most common reason is labor. Generally, after spotting, uterine contractions will occur within 24 hours, which means labor is imminent. Therefore, after seeing blood, you should go to the hospital as soon as possible to prepare for delivery. However, painless bleeding in the late stages of pregnancy is abnormal and may be due to placenta previa. If you have severe abdominal pain and bleeding occurs, you need to find out the cause and go to the hospital to have a doctor check you out in time. It may also be caused by placental abruption, which is more dangerous.

2. If spotting occurs in the late pregnancy, the mother’s specific gestational age and the cause of the spotting must be determined first. If the pregnancy is full-term and the placenta is in a normal position, there is no need for special intervention. Most pregnant women will go into labor within 1-2 days after the spotting of blood. However, if the bleeding is premature and the gestational age is less than 35 weeks, this indicates that the possibility of premature birth is relatively high. If necessary, the doctor needs to give drugs to promote fetal lung maturity and drugs to inhibit uterine contractions. In addition, some spotting may be related to a low placenta or placental abruption. In this case, a doctor's examination or B-ultrasound examination is needed to help clarify the diagnosis. In short, there are huge individual differences in how and whether spotting needs treatment.

3. Vaginal spotting in late pregnancy is one of the symptoms of threatened labor. It is caused by the separation of the fetal membrane near the internal os of the cervix from the uterine wall, and a small amount of bleeding caused by ruptured capillaries. Some people may also discharge cervical mucus plugs, which is a sign that delivery is about to begin. Generally, delivery occurs 24 to 48 hours after vaginal bleeding, and in a few cases, delivery occurs a week later. If the prenatal examination is normal, and there is only vaginal bleeding but no symptoms of uterine contractions, you can wait patiently. If there is no uterine contraction one week after the due date, you need to go to the hospital and choose an appropriate delivery method under the guidance of a doctor to avoid overdue pregnancy.
