Can I eat winter melon during menstruation?

For women, there are great restrictions on their diet during menstruation. In order to reduce menstrual discomfort, the consumption of some cold foods is basically prohibited. So, someone asked, can you eat winter melon during menstruation? In fact, winter melon is also a cold food, and we do not recommend eating it. During menstruation, women are advised to eat more brown sugar and red dates to replenish blood.

Winter melon belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family, an annual herb native to southern China and India. It is now widely cultivated in East Asia and South Asia. It is mainly produced in summer and is named winter melon because there is a layer of white powdery substance on its surface, just like the white frost in winter. Winter melon can be used to make soup or stir-fry, and it is also helpful for women to lose weight. Old winter melons are the most resistant to storage and transportation, and have the best taste. Old winter melons are best when they are fully developed, mature, with firm and thick flesh and small ventricles; the skin is green with white frost, the shape is regular, the surface has no spots or external injuries, and the skin is not soft and rotten. If you pick young melons, you must make sure they are fresh and tender.

1. Winter melon is cold in nature. People with spleen and stomach qi deficiency, diarrhea, loose stools, cold stomach pain should avoid eating raw and cold winter melon. In addition, women during menstruation and those with cold dysmenorrhea should avoid eating raw winter melon.

2 Winter melon should not be eaten with pork liver, because the trace element copper in pork liver will oxidize the vitamin C in the winter melon, thereby reducing the edible and therapeutic effects of winter melon and pork liver.

3. Winter melon should not be eaten with carrots, because carrots contain a vitamin C-degrading enzyme. When eaten with winter melon, the vitamin C in the winter melon will be destroyed, reducing the nutritional value of winter melon and carrots.

4 Winter melon peel has the effect of clearing away heat and relieving summer heat, so it is better to cook it with the skin.

5 When cooking soup with winter melon and meat, the winter melon must be added later and then simmered over low heat to prevent it from being overcooked and mushy.
