Why do some cars have only one reversing light that stays on all the time?

The main function of the reversing light is to warn the vehicle behind you to give way. Many current models only have one reversing light. Although it is asymmetrical in appearance, it is still reasonable. When the car is in reverse gear, the reversing light will light up. So why is the reversing light always on?

Why do some cars only have one reversing light?

There are two functions of reversing lights: one is to provide rear lighting when reversing at night; the other is to provide a warning to vehicles and people behind. From this point of view, reversing lights are also an important safety device on the car.

Traffic regulations in 2001 require that cars with a body length of less than 6 meters and M1 vehicles (with less than nine seats) must have at least one reversing light (one can be optional) and at least one fog light (one can be optional).

There may be a practical reason for this regulation. One theory is that the light of the reversing light is too bright and it is easy to be mistaken for the other vehicle going the other way, so a reversing light is simply used to distinguish it; another theory is that for safety, a reversing light is more eye-catching.

The specific installation position is particular, that is, the fog light must be on the left, and the reversing light on the right. The fog light is on the left so that the driver behind can see it easily and it is eye-catching, because my country has left-hand drive cars. The reversing light is on the right to facilitate the light needs when reversing, but now the reversing image is making this function no longer prominent.

Why is the reverse light always on?

It may be caused by a short circuit in the reversing light circuit, a fault in the light switch, etc. For manual transmission, check the reversing light switch, and for automatic transmission, check the gear switch!

The rear light is still on when reversing. Remove the reversing light switch wire connector. The reversing light switch is off, indicating that the reversing light switch is damaged. When the reversing light switch wire plug is removed, the rear light is still on, indicating a short circuit between the power cord, the reversing light switch and the reversing light lead.

How to connect reversing image to reversing light

The installed reversing camera generally has 2 wires, the red one should be connected to the taillight of the rear taillight, and the black ground wire can be used without connection, or it can be plugged into the empty connector of the rear taillight. Since the reversing lights are activated when the reverse gear is engaged, the reversing lights and reversing camera should be on the same line.

However, the taillights in the rear taillights should refer to the maintenance manual or circuit diagram to determine which is the reverse light wire.
