The difference between cervical smear and HPV

In today's society, cervical diseases have become the most common diseases among women. The incidence of cervical diseases is also increasing, and there is a trend of younger people. Therefore, disease screening is urgent. We know that cervical smear is a way to check for cancer. Many women have also begun to pay attention to regular check-ups, but many people know very little about HPV. So what is the difference between cervical smear and HPV?

1. The difference between HPV and cervical smear

Expert Ren said that since there are often no obvious symptoms in the early stages of cervical cancer, many women only go to the hospital for examination when cervical lesions appear. Some people discover lumps during routine family planning checkups, but they are often already in the middle or late stages. In fact, in addition to cervical smears, HPV testing is also one of the main ways to detect early cervical cancer and is an effective way to screen for cervical lesions.

In addition, from the perspective of tumor occurrence, other cancers can be caused by viruses, genetics and other factors, but cervical cancer can be completely proven to be caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). In addition to sexual intercourse, towels, bathtubs, toilets, etc. in public places may also allow HPV to be introduced into the reproductive tract and cause infection. In this regard, Director Mao reminded that people who often travel on business should pay special attention to personal hygiene, and it is best to take a shower.

2. HPV and HPV examination

HPV is a virus, commonly known as human papillomavirus (HPV). It has many types, some of which can cause cancer. Generally speaking, it is divided into low-risk and high-risk types according to whether it is carcinogenic or not. Low-risk HPV will not cause cervical cancer, but high-risk HPV may cause cervical precancerous lesions and cervical cancer.

In short, HPV testing is to check whether a person is carrying the HPV virus. Studies have found that HPV is directly related to the occurrence of cervical cancer. However, one thing that needs to be explained is that the HPV virus can cause cancer, but HPV and cervical cancer cannot be equated. Cervical cancer is mainly related to carcinogenic high-risk HPV infection. Among 60% of women who have sex, the HPV infection rate is as high as 20%, but only a small number of women develop cervical cancer. This is because the body's own free system can automatically remove it.
