Why do pregnant women have nosebleeds?

Childbirth is one of the most important things in a woman's life and it is also what a family pays the most attention to. When a woman is pregnant, the nutrients her body gets are often absorbed by the baby. Therefore, pregnancy is also the period when a woman's body is the weakest, and any abnormal symptoms in the body require special attention. Many women have reported that they experienced nosebleeds during pregnancy, which made the pregnant women very worried, fearing that there was something wrong with the baby. So, why do pregnant women have nosebleeds?

What happens when a pregnant woman suddenly has a nosebleed?

1. After pregnancy, a large amount of progesterone will be secreted in the pregnant body, causing blood vessels to dilate and become congested. At the same time, the blood volume of pregnant women is higher than that of non-pregnant women, and the human nasal mucosa is rich in blood vessels and the blood vessel walls are relatively thin, so it is easy to rupture and cause bleeding. Especially when the human body changes its body position or blows its nose after a night's sleep, it is more likely to cause nosebleeds.

2. Generally speaking, menstruation does not occur during pregnancy. However, some pregnant women are more prone to nosebleeds, which is "compensatory menstruation" characterized by mainly nasal mucosal bleeding. Whether a pregnant woman will have a nosebleed depends on her personal constitution. As long as the amount of bleeding is not too much, it is harmless to the body.

3. Lack of vitamin K. If pregnant women do not absorb enough vitamin K, the amount of prothrombin in the blood will decrease, which can easily cause coagulation disorders, not only nosebleeds, but also congenital vision and intellectual development disorders in the fetus. You should eat more foods rich in vitamin K, such as cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, lettuce, alfalfa, sauerkraut, etc.

What to do if a pregnant woman has a nosebleed

1. Push the nostril on the bleeding side towards the bridge of the nose and hold it for 5-10 minutes to stop the bleeding. If bleeding occurs on both sides, pinch both nostrils. After the nosebleed stops, there are often blood clots in the nostrils. Do not rush to get them out. Try to avoid sneezing and rubbing hard to prevent further bleeding.

2. If your left nostril is bleeding, raise your right arm. If your right nostril is bleeding, raise your left arm. The bleeding will stop after a few minutes.

3. Take an appropriate amount of garlic, peel it and mash it into garlic paste. Apply it on the soles of your feet and wrap it with gauze to stop bleeding quickly.

4. Sit on a chair and soak your feet in hot water to stop nosebleeds.
