My feet are a little swollen when I am five months pregnant

It is a common phenomenon that the body edema occurs during pregnancy. At this time, the feet may swell because the body weight gradually increases after pregnancy, and the blood volume gradually increases. At this time, lower limb edema is prone to occur. Generally speaking, this is due to physiological reasons. Therefore, pregnant women should not be too nervous. They should strengthen their diet and pay attention to moderate exercise, which will help relieve the symptoms.

My feet are a little swollen when I am five months pregnant

1. After pregnancy, the blood volume of pregnant women begins to increase gradually from the 6th week of pregnancy, reaches a peak at 34 weeks, and remains at this level until two weeks after delivery, when it returns to the pre-pregnancy level. Blood volume can increase by about 40% compared to the non-pregnant period, so as blood volume increases, interstitial fluid will also increase.

2. Because the increase in plasma is greater than the increase in blood cells when blood increases, the blood components will be relatively diluted and the relative concentration of plasma albumin will be lower than that in the non-pregnant period. Plasma albumin is the main component that maintains plasma osmotic pressure. Plasma osmolality is lower during pregnancy than during non-pregnancy. This makes it easy for water in the blood to penetrate into the interstitial fluid, causing lower limb edema.

3. After pregnancy, the uterus enlarges, which increases the pressure in the pelvis, thereby affecting the venous blood flow in the lower limbs. This is also one of the important reasons for lower limb edema. If the swelling during pregnancy is relieved after rest or sleep, it is physiological and there is no need to worry.

How to reduce swelling in pregnant women's feet

1. Diet adjustment

What should pregnant women do if their feet are swollen? First of all, you should pay attention to your diet and pay attention to dietary adjustments. In your daily diet, try to keep food light and avoid eating too salty or greasy food; ensure the intake of high-quality protein; at the same time, control water intake and keep it on demand, avoiding drinking too much water.

2. Do moderate exercise

Many pregnant women have swollen feet due to standing or sitting for long periods of time. If you ask "what should pregnant women do if their feet are swollen", of course the answer is to do moderate exercise.

For example, take a short walk after a meal; get up and move around after sitting for a while; massage your legs frequently; and if conditions permit, swim a little; all of these can help to effectively eliminate swollen feet in pregnant women.

3. Use the belly support belt properly

As the baby continues to grow, the uterus continues to expand and compresses the meridians of the lower limbs, resulting in poor blood circulation in the lower limbs. The swelling of pregnant women's feet will gradually worsen in the late pregnancy. What should pregnant women do at this time?

Under normal circumstances, for swollen feet not caused by disease factors, pregnant women can pay more attention to their diet, reduce salt intake, try to eat less salt and soy sauce, and eat less pickled vegetables.
