Why do I feel cold when I am pregnant?

Many pregnant women find that many of their habits have changed. Some of them used to like eating meat, but after becoming pregnant they particularly dislike it and would vomit after eating it. Others are the opposite. In addition, some women are not afraid of cold originally, but since becoming pregnant, they always feel the same temperature is colder than others. Why do I feel cold when I’m pregnant? How can we improve it? Or is this a normal phenomenon?

There used to be a saying that if a pregnant woman is afraid of the cold, she will give birth to a little girl, otherwise she will give birth to a little boy. Of course, there is no scientific basis for this, but it is not a good thing for pregnant women to be afraid of cold. If they become less afraid of cold later, it means it is normal.

1. Experts say that in the first three months after pregnancy, the placenta in the abdomen is still in the initial stage of development, which will keep the body temperature of expectant mothers at a higher level, so pregnant women generally feel afraid of cold. After the early stages of pregnancy, the placenta will gradually develop, the mother's body temperature will return to normal, and the fear of cold will be alleviated. After the early stages of pregnancy, the amount of blood in the mother's body will increase, causing the body's heat to rise, which will manifest as not being afraid of cold in the later stages.

2. There is another important reason for being afraid of cold in early pregnancy, that is, the pregnant mother’s physical condition is relatively poor, or the nutrition during pregnancy is not enough, such as insufficient intake of carbohydrates, fats, and protein, which leads to the pregnant woman’s weak physique and fear of cold. From this point of view, some pregnant mothers are not obviously afraid of cold in the early stages of pregnancy because they have good physical fitness.

3. There is another reason for being afraid of cold in early pregnancy: hypothyroidism. There are clinical examples of pregnant women suffering from endocrine disorders and low metabolism due to hypothyroidism. No matter what the reason is that pregnant women are afraid of cold in the early stages of pregnancy, they must pay attention to keeping warm. In the early stages of pregnancy, they should pay special attention to adding or removing clothes, paying attention to rest, drinking plenty of water, and exercising appropriately to prevent catching a cold during pregnancy.
