What to do if the hcg value is too low

HCG plays an important role in the early diagnosis and examination of pregnant women. It is a core indicator. During the early pregnancy examination, if the hCG value is low, it may be that the time of the last menstrual period was misjudged. In this case, you can check again the next day. If it is still low during the examination, it may be caused by slow fetal development. The doctor should carry out effective pregnancy preservation treatment after a good examination and diagnosis. As a pregnant woman, you should get enough rest, preferably in bed, which will help to protect the fetus.

What to do if hCG is too low

The levels of human chorionic gonadotropin-related molecules are also related to the sex of the fetus. The levels of human chorionic gonadotropin in baby girls are significantly higher than those in baby boys. During early pregnancy, if the blood hCG value is low, it may be due to miscalculation of the last menstrual period. At this time, you should check again the next day. If the rising number does not double, you need to go to the hospital for a B-ultrasound at 45 days to determine whether it is an intrauterine pregnancy.

If it is an intrauterine pregnancy, it may be caused by delayed fetal development. If there is no accompanying bleeding or other conditions, you need to go to the hospital in time for pregnancy preservation treatment. If there is no problem with the development of the embryo itself, hCG will double after effective treatment. In ectopic pregnancy, blood hCG will be lower than the normal pregnancy value during the same period. Therefore, when an ultrasound examination determines that it is an ectopic pregnancy, the patient needs to be hospitalized for treatment immediately.

The HCG blood test is currently the earliest and most accurate way to test whether a woman is pregnant. The HCG blood test is usually done 8-10 days after sexual intercourse to determine whether a woman is pregnant by drawing blood to test for HCG. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein secreted by trophoblast cells of the placenta and is composed of two subunits, a- and b-. hCG enters the maternal blood after fertilization and proliferates rapidly until the 8th week of pregnancy, then slowly decreases in concentration until the 18th to 20th week, and then remains stable. The HCG blood test is a quantitative test of HCG in the blood to understand whether pregnancy is possible.

When should blood HCG be checked?

1. Confirm pregnancy - the earliest can be 8-10 days after sexual intercourse. The best time to do a blood HCG test is 8-10 days after intercourse. At this time, the test can be used as a pregnancy test to confirm pregnancy. At the same time, in the first 3 months of pregnancy, this test can also be used to diagnose single or multiple pregnancies.

2. Diagnosis of abnormal pregnancy: test the hCG level every 2 days to see if it doubles. After a woman becomes pregnant, an increase in the β-hCG value in the blood can be detected from the 9th to 11th day, and the β-hCG value can double every two days thereafter. If the test shows that the increase rate is slow for two consecutive times, it may be caused by factors such as ectopic pregnancy, abnormal embryo or intrauterine growth retardation. If the abnormal pregnancy is a hydatidiform mole, the HCG concentration in the serum will be much higher than the value in the corresponding month of a normal pregnancy. Therefore, this difference can be used as an auxiliary diagnosis of hydatidiform mole, which is usually performed in the first 3 months of pregnancy.

3. Down syndrome screening - 15-20 weeks of pregnancy. Down syndrome screening detects the levels of AFP and β-hCG in venous blood and comprehensively calculates the risk of the fetus having Down syndrome. The best time to do this test is between 15 and 20 weeks of pregnancy.

4. Judgment of miscarriage: 4 days after delivery or 13 days after artificial abortion. Since the fetus has been delivered, the woman's blood HCG test should return to normal 4 days after delivery or 13 days after artificial abortion.
