What are the consequences of a caesarean section? 7 major impacts to watch out for!

Caesarean section has become a very important means of delivery, especially when the mother and baby are in danger, Caesarean section can be an effective first aid method, but for women, Caesarean section is an operation, and they must be adequately prepared before the operation and receive all kinds of care after the operation. If the relevant work is not done properly, Caesarean section may cause the following hazards.

1. Vaginal atrophy

The vaginal atrophy of women who have undergone cesarean section after menopause is more serious than that of women who have given birth naturally, which has a certain impact on their sexual life. People in developed countries attach importance to sexual life in middle-aged and elderly people, so they pay attention to avoiding cesarean sections when they are young.

2. Uterine bleeding

Cesarean section can increase the incidence of uterine atony, resulting in increased postoperative bleeding.

3. Amniotic fluid embolism

During the operation, amniotic fluid may enter the blood circulation, causing severe allergic reactions and embolism, which is extremely dangerous. Although current cesarean sections minimize this risk by compressing the blood vessels and allowing the amniotic fluid to drain during the operation, the serious consequences of amniotic fluid embolism still force obstetricians to remain highly vigilant.

4. Infection and adhesion

Surgery increases the chance of infection. Surgical incision infection, endometritis, and urinary tract infection are three common postoperative infections. Due to the damage caused by surgery to the human body, pelvic adhesions are likely to occur after surgery, posing hidden dangers such as reduced intestinal motility or even obstruction.

5. Anesthesia complications

Cesarean section requires anesthesia and also has certain risks. In addition, the operation can damage nerves, causing long-term "dull pain" after the operation; it may also damage the mother's bladder, ureters and intestines; in rare cases, incisional hernia (internal organs such as intestines protruding from the incision) may occur.

6. Aspiration of amniotic fluid

The fetus has the physiological phenomenon of swallowing amniotic fluid in the uterus, but the anti-gastroesophageal reflux structure is not mature. During cesarean section, the baby is not squeezed by the birth canal to squeeze out the amniotic fluid in the upper digestive tract. About 0.7% of the babies will accidentally inhale amniotic fluid into the lungs 3-5 minutes after being taken out of the mother, causing severe pneumonia or even suffocation. Although measures such as the "hand support method" can prevent this complication, the risk is difficult to avoid 100%.

7. Impaired emotional intelligence

In the neonatal neurobehavioral scores, babies born by cesarean section scored lower than those born vaginally on days 7 and 14. In the long term, foreign studies have confirmed that the emotional quotient (EQ) of babies born by cesarean section will be relatively low. The possible reason is that babies born by cesarean section do not pass through the birth canal to squeeze and stimulate the temporal lobe of the brain, which is a nerve center related to emotions. Guo Huiping said that babies born by cesarean section have relatively weaker ability to communicate with others and are more likely to develop autism in childhood. Many emotional and suicidal problems among college students today may be related to cesarean section. In addition, the surgical instruments and operations used in cesarean sections can easily cause scratches and fractures on the baby's skin; the artificially calculated surgery date may not match the actual gestational age, causing artificial premature birth.
