What causes vulvar itching?

Vulvar itching is mostly caused by some gynecological diseases, and the special physiological structure of women makes it easy to be affected by gynecological diseases, such as candidal vaginitis and Trichomonas vaginitis. Some psychological factors can also cause vulvar itching.

1. Local infection of gynecological diseases causes vulvar itching

First up is special infections. The most common are candidal vaginitis and Trichomonas vaginitis. In addition, lice and scabies can also cause itching. The second is suffering from chronic vulvar malnutrition. At this time, in addition to itching as the main symptom, the vulvar skin also turns white. The third is due to chemical allergy or stimulation by chemicals, such as direct stimulation by soap, condoms, etc. or allergy to these substances, causing contact dermatitis, resulting in itching symptoms.

In addition, women's daily hygiene habits are also one of the reasons. For example, not paying attention to local cleaning, long-term stimulation from sebum, sweat, menstruation, vaginal secretions and even urine and feces can cause itching; wearing non-breathable synthetic underwear can also induce itching. The last reason is that other skin diseases, common warts, herpes, eczema, abrasions, etc. cause vulvar itching.

2. Disease and psychological factors cause vulvar itching

As mentioned earlier, many women believe that vulvar itching is caused by gynecological diseases. In fact, according to experts, vulvar itching can also be caused by other diseases. The first is diabetes. Due to the irritation of diabetes to the vulvar skin, especially when accompanied by fungal vulvar inflammation, vulvar itching is particularly severe. The second reason is chronic diseases such as jaundice, anemia, leukemia, and women lack vitamins A and B, which may cause symptoms of itching all over the body, and vulvar itching may also become a side symptom.

Sometimes vulvar itching is also a normal physiological phenomenon. For example, when a woman is pregnant or before menstruation, the congestion of the vulva may cause itching and discomfort. Finally, vulvar itching caused by psychological factors is called "psychogenic pruritus", which is often one of the symptoms of psychological disorders.

3. Vulvar itching may also be contagious

Many times, vulvar itching is just a symptom. It depends on what disease causes it. If it is caused by diseases such as vaginitis, it may be transmitted through sexual contact. Although women carry pathogens, they are not 100% contagious. Even if men are infected, they may not show symptoms, especially those with better resistance, who may not be infected even if they come into contact with the disease. However, once the man is infected, it is very likely that he will infect the woman again after she recovers, causing the symptoms of vulvar itching to recur.

Generally speaking, vulvar itching is most commonly caused by Trichomonas infection and fungal infection. Both inflammations are often transmitted through sexual behavior. It can also be transmitted through public baths, bathtubs, swimming pools, toilets, clothing, etc. Therefore, women with symptoms of vulvar itching should avoid having sex normally, and should refrain from having sex during treatment to completely cure the inflammation.
