How to treat breast calcifications

How to treat breast calcifications

Breast calcification refers to the problem of calcium deposition on the inner side of the breast. In the face of this situation, we must not ignore it, because it will have an adverse effect and harm on our breast health and physical health. Therefore, we must understand and correctly solve and deal with it to reduce the occurrence of this disease as much as possible. Because the incidence of breast diseases has been increasing in recent years, we must do a good job of prevention.

Calcifications are calcium deposits in the breast that can be detected on X-rays. Calcification foci in the breast can be large or small: large calcification foci are often benign breast lesions, such as aging, old injuries, and inflammation of the internal mammary artery, and generally do not require further biopsy. Small calcifications are usually located in areas where cells grow and divide rapidly. If there are multiple tiny calcification points clustered together locally, it indicates the presence of small breast cancer lesions. Half of breast cancers detected on X-ray appear as clusters of tiny calcifications in the breast.

How to treat small calcifications in the breast?

Small calcifications found on X-rays are not necessarily breast cancer. Certain types of small calcifications on X-rays can also be diagnosed as benign changes without the need for a biopsy. In this case, doctors often recommend that patients take another breast X-ray for follow-up 3 to 6 months later. However, it is difficult to differentiate the benign and malignant small calcifications by X-ray, so further biopsy is needed to confirm the diagnosis.

Why is a biopsy necessary if no lump can be felt during physical examination?

Breast cancer may not be palpable. Once it becomes a mass, it may have progressed, so lesions that appear suspicious on X-ray, such as some small calcifications, should be biopsied. A biopsy helps detect breast cancer in its early stages and greatly increases the chances of being cured. Generally speaking, breast cancer discovered due to X-ray abnormalities is often small in size. If there is no axillary lymph node or distant metastasis, the patient's 5-year survival rate is over 90%. At the same time, such patients are also the most ideal candidates for breast-conserving surgery (local excision plus postoperative radiotherapy).

The above is some common sense analysis of breast calcification. After understanding these content analyses, everyone should pay attention to them. Only when we pay more attention to these common sense in our lives, when we encounter these phenomena, can we pay attention to them, treat them scientifically, and reduce the impact on our bodies.
