According to Taiwanese media reports, Taiwanese actress, singer and host Barbie Hsu (Big S) died of influenza-related pneumonia at the age of 48.

Common flu generally has mild symptoms and a good prognosis, but complications such as myocarditis and pneumonia may lead to serious consequences, especially for high-risk groups such as the elderly, infants, pregnant women and people with weakened immunity.

Pu Xingxiang, chief physician of the Department of Pulmonary Gastroenterology at Hunan Cancer Hospital , said that cancer patients belong to a group of people with low immunity: the tumor itself causes low immunity, and anti-tumor treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy can also suppress immunity, so they must pay great attention to preventing influenza and pneumonia.

How to prevent influenza? Professor Pu Xingxiang said that during the influenza season, avoid crowded places, take personal protection measures, and wear masks. Secondly, ensure adequate sleep and rest, balanced nutrition, do not eat partial or picky food, and exercise moderately. At the same time, keep the house clean, ventilate in time, and wash hands frequently. If necessary, get a flu vaccine and inject thymosin alpha-sin and other immune enhancers.

Professor Pu Xingxiang said that once cancer patients have symptoms such as fever and cough, they should seek medical attention in time, contact the attending physician, and pay attention to the differentiation of common cold and tumor-related symptoms. Tumor patients are prone to pneumonia due to influenza, which may be viral or bacterial pneumonia, or immune pneumonia caused by anti-tumor treatment, interstitial pneumonia, etc., and need to be hospitalized in time to complete bronchoscopic alveolar lavage fluid NGS and other examinations to differentiate and treat the cause and symptoms.
