Should women get IUDs?

Many people are very concerned about whether it is painful to insert an IUD. In fact, IUD insertion is to place an IUD in the woman's uterus. Generally speaking, IUD insertion is not very painful, especially now many people choose painless IUD insertion. After a woman has given birth, her vulva will be emptier than that of a woman who has not given birth. Therefore, the pain caused by placing the IUD in the uterus will be relatively much smaller. However, since each woman's physical condition and the symptoms after IUD insertion are different, the pain caused will also be different.

Is it good to have an IUD? The advantages of having an IUD

High efficiency: From the perspective of contraceptive measures, the success rate of IUD insertion is indeed very high, and it can prevent women from getting pregnant before marriage. Although if there are operational problems during the IUD insertion process that affect the quality, pregnancies may also occur, but overall, IUD insertion is still a relatively reliable contraceptive measure.

Safety: Compared with taking emergency contraceptives and other contraceptive measures, the IUD is considered a safer contraceptive measure. It can reduce the damage caused by contraceptive measures to the female body, will not inhibit ovulation, is not likely to have too many side effects, and will not affect the sexual life of the couple.

Convenient and quick: If you want to get pregnant again after having the IUD inserted, you can go to the hospital to have it removed anytime and anywhere without worrying about affecting your fertility.

Side effects of IUD

Lower back pain and abdominal pain: Some women said that after having an IUD inserted, they often experienced abdominal pain and lower back pain due to the IUD causing uterine contraction.

Excessive vaginal discharge: If the contraceptive ring installed in the uterus contains a tail thread, it will easily increase the uterine secretions, resulting in excessive vaginal discharge. However, it will usually recover after a period of time when the uterine wall is integrated. If accompanied by fever, abdominal pain, etc., you need to see a doctor immediately.

Bleeding: Some people will experience bleeding three or four days after having an IUD inserted. This is because the IUD stimulates uterine contractions and scratches the cervix and endometrium, causing bleeding. But it will usually heal on its own within 7 days, so there is no need to worry.

Heavy menstrual flow: In the first three months after the IUD is inserted, it is still relatively easy to have some menstrual problems, but don’t worry, the body will recover on its own after it adapts.

Common problems after IUD insertion

Rest: You should rest within one or two days after the IUD is inserted to prevent it from falling out due to the loose cervix. It is worth mentioning that you should not do heavy physical work within 7 days after the IUD is inserted to prevent it from falling out and causing bleeding.

Environmental hygiene: After the IUD is inserted, the vulva must be cleaned every day, and no bidet bathing is required within ten days. Sexual intercourse is also not allowed within ten days to prevent infection.

Inspection: In the first three months after the IUD is inserted, you should always pay attention to whether the IUD has fallen off. After the first menstruation after the IUD is inserted, you need to go to the hospital to check whether it has fallen off. After that, check it once every three months to six months, and then check it again after one year. After that, you only need to go for a follow-up visit once a year.
