Can paternity testing be done before birth?

The emergence of paternity testing technology allows us to genetically distinguish the physiological and genetic relationship between parents and children. With current technology, the accuracy of paternity test reports is still very high. Generally speaking, if we conduct a paternity test, we need to provide some tissues or cells that carry the DNA of both the parent and the child, such as blood. So, can paternity testing be performed before birth?

Prenatal paternity testing refers to the use of genetic technology to identify the genetic father of the fetus. When the genetic father of the fetus is unknown, "prenatal paternity testing" can extract cells from the amniotic fluid of the pregnant woman and confirm the father-son relationship by identifying the fetus's DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). Paternity testing can be done from the fetal period by detecting the fetal DNA through chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis. Chorionic villus sampling can be done after 10 weeks of pregnancy, and amniocentesis can be done after 16 weeks of pregnancy. This article introduces the method of fetal paternity testing.

1. Chorionic villus sampling

1. The cleanliness of the leucorrhea of pregnant women should be high, which is 1 degree;

2. Pregnant women should avoid colds, sore throats, fevers and other inflammations

3. Routine blood test, white blood cell count is not high

2. Amniotic fluid identification

1. Pregnant women should avoid colds, sore throats, fevers and other inflammations

2. Routine blood test, white blood cell count is not high

Tips for pregnant women to identify their fetus:

1. Pregnant women need to rest before surgery. If they have a cold, sore throat or fever, they cannot undergo surgery.

2. You can eat breakfast on the day of the hospital examination, and you don’t need to fast for blood draw

3. Pregnant women who need chorionic villus sampling need to undergo an ultrasound before coming. Confirm the pregnancy period and do a leucorrhea examination. If the cleanliness is normal, you can have the surgery.

4. Pregnant women are not allowed to take a bath on the day after surgery and are not allowed to have sexual intercourse for half a month.

5. Wear more clothes when going out to avoid catching a cold.
